Re: Diaper brand pref?

  • I've heard raves about pampers, but I think it depends on the baby.  I would suggest getting a few different kinds and finding out which works best for your LO.

  • I prefer pampers sensative, but the they are expensive, so we only had the ones that were "gifted" to us.  Other than that It was teh BJ's brand.
  • All the Moms I know say Pampers, so that is what I bought. They said huggies leak, but it could be a trial & error thing based on your baby.

  • Both of my SIL's say that Pampers are much better than Huggies. So that's what I plan to try first.
  • I've been given two recommendations....the first is Target brand.  I was told they work just as good and are cheaper.  Especially when they are little and aren't crawling all around.  The second recommendation was Pampers Sensitive.  They have a line on them that changes color when the diaper is wet so you don't have to disturb a sleeping newborn if the diaper isn't wet.

We have probably about 10 different brands of diapers though.  At my shower everyone was asked to bring a pack of diapers in exchange for a raffle ticket so we'll be using a variety of brands for a while.

  • I plan on using cloth once we get out of the sticky meconium stage, but we used Pampers Swaddlers in the beginning with C.  They were soft and absorbent.

After we ran out (we were gifted a TON of diapers), we switched to White Cloud, which you could find at Wal-Mart.  Unfortunately, they don't make them anymore.  :(  When we use sposies (which we're doing now with C because I'm too lazy to do laundry), we use Parent's Choice (Wal-Mart's brand) ... And we've NEVER had a blow out or problem with leaking.

You'll find out that you'll prefer a certain brand over others depending on your baby's shape.  Some people love Pampers and hate Huggies while some people adore Luvs and hate Pampers.  Whatever works!

  • All babies are different.  Are you using disposables?

We started DD in Pampers Swaddlers Extra Sensitive (they have a little line that turns color when wet... which was nice because DD didn't pee enough at the beginning to make a "squishy" diaper, but she hated being even slightly wet).  We liked those just fine.  We had a few Huggies we tried out, but they never fit her well and leaks out of those were especially bad.  Cheaper brands (like Luvs, and generics) tended to give her horrible diaper rash, so we avoided those altogether.

We switched her into cloth diapers around 6 months, and have been much happer with that in general.  We'll be starting this new LO in cloth.

  • I got a ton of different brands at my showers so I will get to decied from them, but my bestfriend swears that pampers swadlers were the best and she is sure once I go thur the suply I have I will be the same way! If I hadn't gotten the diapers I have I would probably try all the different brands untill I found one that I liked or the ones that work the best.
  • I have a lot of huggies because people have been giving me huggies. I was told to have a variety and it's kind of trial and error. Some diapers work better than others it just depends on the baby, so if you're stocking up, get a variety of brands....start with one and if it doesn't work well, try another until you find one that works....don't worry about having multiple packages of a  brand that doesn't work because most places will take unopened packages back with a reciept...I've even been told that wal mart will take back major brands without reciepts.
  • I used Pampers swaddlers for the newborn diapers. But, I switched to Huggies and we had no problems at all with them. If they started to leak, we moved up to the next size and that did the trick.

I bought Pampers swaddlers for this one and Huggies again. I got the new natural Huggies as well which I am excited to try. I had a bunch of $3 off coupons for them and they were on sale at Wal-Mart. I ended up getting like 5 packs for $6 each.

  • It really depends on the baby.  Each diaper fits each chlid differently and some will leak while others don't.  I am lucky in that DS has never leaked out of a single diaper so any brand works for him including all generics.  I usually just buy whatever is the best deal at the time.  I think Pampers smell awful and refuse to use them b/c of the smell.

  • We're using huggies right now with DS, but will buy whichever is the cheapest.  I have a few boxes of pampers waiting for ds on the next size up.  TIP: KEEP AN EYE ON CLEARANCED ONES AT TARGET.  At first we used the NB papers swaddlers then switched him to Costco brand up to size 2-3 (my aunts present).  I've found the better price is on the huggies at Sam's Club.  Diapers DS did aweful with are the Target Up and Up brand.  Try them out and see which ones work best for LO!  If they Leak, give a rash or fall apart- TAKE THEM BACK!  They are too expensive to waist money on.

Ditto.  I've heard this so many times that even though I haven't even had my own personal experience yet, I won't buy anything other than Pampers at the moment.

  • I LOVED pampers for DD#1!!!! I tried huggies and hated them. We recently switched to the kirkland brand from costco and they are just as good as the pampers, but they don't make newborn or size 1 (I think they start at 2-3).
  • We bought Pampers Swaddlers for NB, and then Kirkland (Costco) 1-2 for after that.
  • LOVED huggies, hated the smell of pampers, luvs never fit right so leaked everywhere, and generics (including the target brand) caused terrible rashes.  I had the same experience as someone else... when the huggies leaked, it meant I needed to go up to the next size.  Never had any other problems with them.  Pampers were ok as far as fit and leaks, but I could never get over that weird meshy liner they switched to, or the horrible smell.

This exactly! My sister uses disposables and recommended the pampers swaddlers...at least for baby boys. I will use til the CDs fit right.

  • Totally depends on the kid.  Personally, I think the generics are just as good as the more expensive brands, but that may just be our experience.  Both of my kids used Parents Choice as infants and then switched to Luvs as they became more active.  We are now using Fisher Price Overnights for DS to sleep in because he leaked through every other brand.  Hopefully this one works (so far so good) or we're going to have to start doubling up.

Try different brands and find the one that works best for you.  I wouldn't recommend stocking up on only one brand.
