Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Hand awareness--2.5-3 months

DS loves his new trick of bringing his hands together to his mouth but he hasn't figured out that his paci is in there and he knocks it out and then gets kinda POed.  hehe silly baby

Also, his face has tiny scratches from scraping it trying to get to play with his mouth :(  His nails are short so other than put mittens on him I don't know what else to do...

Does your LO do this too?

Re: Hand awareness--2.5-3 months

  • Mine is putting his hand in his mouth non-stop. He doesn't look at his hands though. When do they start doing this?

  • Yes. Sometimes it looks as though she is trying to fit both of her hands in her mouth. Other times she can be found staring in amazement (at her hands).

Not sure when they start doing this, but DS is focusing on things near his face a lot now.  So, probably soon.  BTW, don't know if you noticed but our sons are the exact same age! :)

  • DD constantly has her hands in her mouth. Last night I caught her looking at her open hand. That was the first time I noticed her really doing that.
  • I didn't notice that! How fun! My LO has been real fussy lately... I think he might be going through a growth spurt.
  • ds tries to fit his entire hand into his mouth all the time. he's going to be that kid on the playground who can fit his fist in his mouth, i just know it.

  • yup, ds constantly has the hands in the mouth and knocks out the paci, and gets upset. He also scratches himself a lot, I just try to keep the nails as short as possible.

  • Oh yeah, he tries to mouth both his fists at the same time... And he scratches himself a little too. I have found that he likes a little Teddy bear rattle so when I give it to him he chews on it rather than on his hands, no scratching himself this way.

  • LO loves his hands, he is always staring at them and shoving both of them in his mouth at the same time, lol. And now he's a thumb sucker - which has helped him STTN 8-10 hours! Love it Yes

  • DD is now starting to suck on her hands and I am glad.  Never thought I'd be hoping for a thumb sucker, but she doesn't care for the binky very much but still wants to suck all the time.  I've been counting down the days until this milestone!

  • Occasionally she gets the fingers in her mouth.  Usually its just the knuckle so she isn't a happy camper.  She loves her binky but pops it out all the time and gets really mad.  I'm trying to teach her where her hands are so she'll suck her fingers instead of screaming bloody murder.  Is that wrong?!
