Anyone remember how much $ we use to spend during Christmas time @ our prior place of employment?

The Christmas before last I was pregnant with DS and I spent:

-money on a food item for our office party
-money on a ticket for our department's party (catered event)
-money on our office's tradition of pulling a name and giving that person small gifts ALL week and then a BIG gift on the last day
-money on co-worker's Christmas cards

I remember telling DH that I had spent almost $50 just on work-related Christmast things!  Whew!

  • That sucks, I never spent money at the office for Christmas.  The party was always free for employee - including an open bar!  I'll miss that this year :(

  • Ditto- i have never paid a dime during the holiday season- unless i baked something and brought it in on my own.

my company (which i still work at) is insane during the holiday season- we have a very large shindig at one of the poshish hotels in Philadelphia, open bar, entertainment, ice sculptures etc.

The nice this is that the company pays for a night a the hotel for you and your spouse after the party. you just go right upstairs and crash. It is like a 400/night hotel. AWESOME party. Can't wait for this years.

Wow!  I've never heard of a company offering a free posh hotel stay for a Christmas party!  NICE!!!  I love ice sculptures too :-)

  • I didn't have to spend a whole lot.  Our Secret Santa gift was a maximum $10 (just one).  Then I'd usually make some cookies for in-office parties, possibly pick up the plates, cutlery, etc.  It was all really informal.  No cards for the co-workers, and the big, department party was free.

I did put a lot of worry into what I would wear to the fancy party, though.

  • No real out of pocket money for me at the holidays with my old job.  The only thing we did as a company to celebrate is dinner (company paid) at a really nice restaurant.  We also got a Christmas bonus.  I'll definitely miss that this year!
  • My airline did lots of charity work around Christmas, the Christmas before jack was born I bought a new bike for a child for work. So yeah around $50.
