2nd Trimester

Prego & potty training

So today is day one of potty training. I feel so lost, like I have no idea what I am doing. My DD will be 2 in less than a month but is showing definite signs of being ready to use the potty. I am a little over 16 weeks pregnant and it would be awesome to only have one in diapers at a time. Anyone have any tips!?!? There are soo many things on the internet but nothing I have found really helpful.

Re: Prego & potty training

  • With DD we made it into a game. Everytime she would use the potty, she would get a gold star, and that was her point. When we got tired of that, we put food coloring in the toilet, and she would try and change the color of the water. I have heard of alot of people using musical toilets.

Another thing that really helped was the Potty Training Elmo. Everytime DD would use the toilet, Elmo would use his right next to her.

  • My DD is almost 2 1/2...and I started planting the potty training bug at 2...but so far it hasn't been fruitful. While I THOUGHT she was ready ( wanting to sit on the potty, hated dirty diapers etc...) she isn't. And I'm beyond frustrated with her. She'll sit on the potty all day long. Watch me go potty, wants to wear "undies", but WILL NOT go. She;s actually gone in the potty 3x in the last 4 months. I want her to be potty trained SO BAD!!! But jsut be patient. And be persistent. I made a potty chart, and everytime DD TRIES to go pitty, she gets a sticker on the potty chart. And everytime she actually GOES in the potty, she gets  a prize from a grab bag( i went to the dollar tree and loaded up on litlte cheapie toys). She LOVES getting stickers, so thats worked good, jsut can't get her to go!!! I also bought her princess panties and she wants to wear them so bad...but i toldher she cant until she learns to pee pee in the potty. GL!!

LOL - this is our story too!  DD is 2 1/2 and just not ready.  We'll have 2 in diapers, but hopefully just about 3 months overlap.  DD has all the motions down - even washes hands after she is done, but does not get that you pee pee in the potty - she is starting to though.  She loves to wear her panties so I let her if I'm feeling extra patient that day because I know I'm going to be cleaning up a mess and she doesn't really care that she messed :) Most of the time I just let her put her panties on over the diaper and she seems ok with that.  Not sure what we are going to do other than just wait it out.

Plus, I know she'll regress once the baby is born so I'm really not putting a ton of pressure on it yet.

At 18 months my dd started wanting to sit on the potty.  She would occasionally use it, and then not care at all.  I started pushing the potty training thing at 2 1/2, and honestly - it didn't matter what I did.  We did the stickers on the chart, then I moved to the prize bag (cheap stuff - but she got a prize everytime she went - and then when she started doing #1 more often - she'd only get prizes for #2).  But it just seemed like it wasn't consistent.  Then one day, she must have just decided it was time, and it clicked.  This was right around her 3rd bday.

I know that I heard from a lot of moms who would say "try all you want, but until they decide to do it, your efforts will be in vain" and this was true for us - as soon as it clicked for her or she decided it was time, she just stopped having accidents, and just started using the potty!

I hope your dd is different, and just picks up on it early!  Good luck!
