I'm a bit frustrated w/ J's eating...he used to eat WHATEVER you put in front of him, but now he's asserting his independence with his eating, oh joy! Here's what he'll currently eat:
Breakfast: YoBaby Yogurt, Blueberry Waffle (dry), & fruit
Lunch/Dinner: Chicken Tenders, Cheese, PB on Graham Crackers or toast (not regular bread), Mac-n-Cheese (on occasion - usually only the Velveeta Rotini w/ Broccoli - microwave kind in a cup), Pizza (I only offer this when we eat pizza)...ugh that lists frustrates me b/c it's so unhealthy!
He'll eat any kind of fruit you give him, but veggies are hit or miss.
I always offer him what we're eating but he usually refuses & I default to the above.
What other suggestions do you have?
Re: What do you feed your toddler?
AT is very much like J.
He has the same bf when hes home with me that you listed.
He doesnt really care for friuts....I need to get better at offering though. The boy LOVES pasta and potatoes....and I just now started giving him chic nugg etc.
Since he loves mashed pot so well I mix veggies in them. It just depends on his mood I guess.
My default are the Gerber pasta pick ups bc I know there are veggies in them. I also give a bfast bar alot too bc of his lack of fruit. Just do what you can.....they will eventually come around. I know the frustration all too well!
Maddie is generally a pretty good eater, although she has recently become a lot pickier about veggies than she used to be. Here are our "usuals:"
breakfast: oatmeal w/ either cinnamon or blueberries, cinnamon toast, pancakes, scrambled eggs with cheese, yogurt, breakfast bar.
lunch: sandwich (pb&j, hummus, turkey&avocado), string cheese, peas, carrots, yogurt, applesauce, quesadillas (usually with chicken, cheese and a pureed veggie), grilled cheese
dinner: some sort of protein (chicken, turkey, beef, pork or black beans), Gerber raviolis, steamed mixed veggies, black bean burrito, roasted sweet potato, mac and cheese
She eats fruit with pretty much every meal b/c she loves it so much. I can almost always get her to eat peas or carrots, other veggies are hit and miss. I try to sneak them in quesadillas, burritos, mac n cheese and the raviolis.
I bought some broccoli mini-quiches at Target, and she was totally grossed out until I let her dip it in ketchup- then she downed the whole darn thing. So I guess you can always try dipping sauces if you are desperate! I know Maddie likes most things dipped in hummus, and most kids love ketchup or ranch.
Also- have you seen the new yogurt that has a veggie and a fruit mixed in? It's by Horizon, the only place I've found it is Super Target but Maddie loves it. It's an easy way to get another veggie in for us. I try to make sure she had a veggie for either breakfast or lunch, and then always at dinner. Which is way better than I can say for myself, lol!
FYI--You can also get this at Kroger in the organic section. We bought some yesterday after I saw Maddie enjoying it at the park. :-)
ditto this. we've gotten to the point that if he doesn't eat what we're serving him, he doesn't eat. while this sounds mean, it's not really for henry. even if he eats nothing else, he'll always drink his milk and eat some sort of fruit at every meal.
he pretty much hasn't eaten since friday morning because he's been under the weather from his shots, but he'll pick back up soon. anyway, he won't really eat veggies, so we sneak them. he pretty much won't eat meat at all
breakfast: omelet, waffle (nutri-grain, blueberry or the filled strawberry kind), french toast, pancakes, cereal with milk
lunch: pasta with cheese and mixed veggies, english muffin pizza, PB&J, PB&honey (if he really hasn't eaten much recently... he LOVES this, but it's just not an every day food!), PB&banana, bean&cheese quesadilla
dinner: whatever we eat. if he eats it, he eats it. if not, he doesn't.
he has a fruit offered at every meal. it's a rare occasion that he doesn't eat the fruit, but we don't worry about him not eating veggies (we do still offer them). the doc always stresses "fruit or veggies," and is happy as long as he's eating fruit.
