Hi ladies:) Lurker here....
I tried looking up info about disability for maternity leave in CA online, but I ended up a little confused....hopefully some of you have a better understanding than I do, and can offer some insight!
I am not covered under FMLA because when LO is born, I will not have been employed at this job for a year, and I don't work enough hours anyways. I also do not have any benefits at all provided by my employer.
So, am I understanding correctly that I will get disability for up to 4 weeks, starting at 36 weeks pregnant, and then 6 weeks of disability after baby is born? And this will be approximately half of what I made in whatever quarter they go back to?
If anyone knows for sure how it works here, that'd be awesome! I know this is a pretty dumb question....I'm blaming my pregnancy induced sleep deprivation for not being able to figure this out
Thanks!!
Re: Maternity leave in CA...
Okay great! I guess I was just worried I wouldn't be eligible because I am only employed part time, and do not receive benefits. So....it's covered by the state/federal gov unless you're not employed at all?
Thanks!
You only get paid if you pay into SDI. Check your stub for CA-SDI (That's how it was always listed for me)
I'm a teacher so I don't pay into SDI so I don't get money out.
Yeah, this is important which I always forget! Not everyone pays into SDI.
Your HR person can also go over everything with you so that you understand.
HTH.
After your 6 or 8 weeks leave after the baby is born (SDI), you can also get 6 weeks of Paid Family Leave. It's also at about 50% salary.
Here is an article I found on CA maternity leave...
