BF question about adjustment of supply

I think my supply has gone down recently because DD will only nurse on one side at a time - not a big deal since I was overproducing milk anyways.  BUT, if she suddenly decides to want more milk, how long will it take my body to adjust and produce more?

Re: BF question about adjustment of supply

  • That does not make sense.  Your supply has gone down, but LO only nurses on one side?  If you were not producing enough, LO would nurse on both sides.

  • I had a huge oversupply and researched and found to help to only feed one side at a time.  I have been doing this since DD2 was less than a month old.  She's almost 5 mo old and still only eats one side.  Usually for less than 5-7 minutes, and she's a chunk.  Is your DC's weight okay?  If so I wouldn't worry.  Occasionally I will offer a 2nd side, but it is only if I don't feel too full, but then it is usually just snacking for her.  She does nurse about every 2 hours though.  Unfortunately I still spray and flow too much, I wish that would calm down.

  • And to answer your actual question, :), if you aren't supplementing and she decides she wants more, your body will adjust fairly quickly, just like it does when they hit a growth spurt.
