I'll be exactly 20 weeks for mine this Tuesday and don't remember having any directions on this. The last u/s I had at 12 weeks they asked me to have a full bladder. THANKS!
yes but they did an initial scan to see how well they could see DS and then they let me go to the bathroom. The tech said if you are on the thinner side (when not PG) then it's easier for them but if you are not then the water helps them get the baby in the proper viewing position.
edit: they let me go to the bathroom before they got the measurements cuz they we able to view DS clearly
I was supposed to do 40, but only managed about 32 before my tummy threatened to rebel...and then the tech was running late! So I was just about dancing in my seat until he got there.
I did not have a full bladder the first time when I went a couple weeks ago (I went to the bathroom before my scan, not thinking about it)...and they weren't able to get all the pics they needed. I don't think it is related, but they told me that when I go back on Tuesday to make sure and have a full bladder an hour before the test and hold it! (Hopefully for them...I don't have to sneeze or its over with...lol)
Thanks for the feedback girls. The last time I had to come with a full bladder I had to wait an hour in the waiting room and was ready to die, I was hoping to avoid that this time around. Plus who wants to get weighed with a full bladder?

I didn't get weighed beforehand (w/this pg or w/my last)
I got no instructions ahead of time, but then when I got there, I had to pee and asked the u/s tech if i should go or not. She said said no, because a fuller bladder would help her be able to visuallize the cervix better on the scan.
I had my big ultrasound right around 20 weeks and the paperwork that they gave me when I made the appt said to drink 16oz of water 1/2 hr before the appt. The fetal ultrasounds (less than 3 months along) required the 32-40oz of water prior.
I go tomorrow and nobody said anything about a full bladder. I'm not too worried though, my bladder is full every 45 min and I'll prob have to wait at least that long.
I drank about 8 oz. before I left my house. I peed 3 times before I even got in there and just kept filling up the cup I was carrying around and drank that. I had zero problems with the u/s. I was really nervous about keeping in all the liquid, but just by drinking steadily before my appointment (with potty breaks), I was totally fine! Good luck!
