My son is two weeks old and his circumcision looks all healed up, but there is an extra point/flap of skin right under the head. I'm not sure if this means it wasn't done properly, or if this is normal and it goes away as they grow. Of course we'll ask our doctor at the next appointment, but if there is a problem I'm not confident they'll be up front about it since they did the circumcision themselves. Can anyone tell me if they think this is normal?
Re: Circumcision question
I'm not quite sure what you're describing. DS has extra skin beneath the head of his penis. Circumcisions these days often do not remove all of the foreskin, so there's a little detached roll of it left. You'll need to pull that back and clean underneath it daily, then put vaseline there to keep it from reattaching.
At the back of the head, the foreskin thins out and attaches in a point. Is that what you're talking about? That's normal too. Go ahead and ask the doctor about it. If there was something wrong, I'm sure that they'd rather fix it now than get sued for it sometime later, ya know?
DS' does have what looks like extra skin similar to what you're describing, but his pediatricians have seen it several times and never said it didn't look right. (better yet, DH didn't seem to have a problem with it, and I figured he would know best)
But as Agrippa said, we gently pull his extra skin back and clean it, even now. It's crazy the stuff that gets in there. This is one of the few times I'm glad I'm a girl...
