3rd Trimester

How much DHA?

If any of you are taking a DHA supplement in addition to  pre-nat's...

How many mg.'s a day are you taking? I thought I was good at 1 tab=100mg, but I just read that adults should get 1000-1500mg a day? That seems excessive.

Re: How much DHA?

  • My prenatal has a DHA supplement. I just take that.

  • I stopped taking DHA in the second tri when I realized that it was partly the cause of my nausea.  OB said it wasn't necessary but always good to have.

  • MW told me at least 200mg. So I don't know if the 1000mg is too much during pregnancy since some DHA comes from fish which could contain mercury I guess. I plan on asking her this at my appt. on friday.

  • I take about 1000mg a day.
  • Mine have 200mg and I've been taking 1/day, as the box said.  I guess I haven't done any research into what is recommended, but I don't believe the FDA has given any guidelines.

  • I take an Omega-3 (Nordic Naturals) Fish Oil Supplement and am taking the equivalent of 1K mg of Omegas, which includes about 330 mg of DHA.  In a few weeks my nutritionist told me to increase it even more.
  • 200mg.  My pre-natals don't include it so, OB said to take one supplement capsule a day.
