Babies: 3 - 6 Months

s/o bottle holding

At the risk of sounding nieve, am I hindering any development of dd by not giving her bottles? I mean that in the way of taking sippy cups in the coming months. DD hasn't had a bottle in over a month and she's had maybe a dozen of them total.

I know that I am very fortunate to still be ebf'ing dd but I'm now wondering if I should be giving her pumped bm in a bottle more often so that the transition to sippy cup and then regular cup isn't as difficult or drawn out.

Thoughts?

  • You can always give her an empty sippy cup to play with and then when she gets a little older, put some water in there and teach her how to drink from it.

No, you're doing the best thing for your baby.  Period.

Thank you! It means a lot to me to hear that! Even from strangers on the interwebz.

  • I would try to give her a bottle every now and then just to make sure she is taking it still. DD was taking a bottle and then all of a sudden stoped 2 weeks before I had to go back to work but I think she stopped because I tried to give her formula in it one time. I don't know how long you plan to EBF but I read that after 5 months you can start to offer the sippy cup. Like pp said you can start offering it to LO now with nothing in it. That way when you do introduce she may be more into taking it since she will be familiar with it.

Sorry, I didn't read your siggy. I was under the impression you had to eventually give a bottle like I did. If you're not going back to work and you plan to EBF then you can probably get away with not using the bottle or sippy.
