2nd Trimester

Drinking caffeine - so shoot me!

I used to drink 2 cups of coffee and a soda a day, and then after BFP, I cut down to one soda a day.  Then my midwife told me "That baby doesn't need any caffeine at all!", so I quit totally.  However, we had bought a bunch of diet sodas, and they've just been sitting there.  DH and I decided today that one or two sodas a week really couldn't hurt anything, so I'm drinking myself a diet cherry pepsi.  It is soooooooo good!!!!!!

  • I will be enjoying a medium Pumpkin Spice coffee prior to my 12 hour night shift tonight. My baby likes it.

  • My dr. told me I could have a coffee and a caffeinated soda each day. I don't drink coffee though, so that was easy not to drink! I have soda a few times a week and thoroughly enjoy it! Smile And diet cherry pepsi is one of the drinks that really helps my m/s!

  • Caffeine in moderation isn't harmful. You enjoy that cherry coke!

  • Everything I have read says one/two caffeinated drinks a day is fine. Why are there so many different "professional" opinions??? Grrr!
  • I still have a cup of coffee a day to help regulate my BMs, plus an Iced Tea here & there.  I watch how much caffeine I drink each day, and try not to go over 200 mg.

  • Since 2nd tri, I've drank a can of coke a day! I am so bummed right now because we have no more coke in the house:( I opted for a 2 liter of pepsi that's been in our garage for over a year. Needless to say its gross because its pepsi and flat!
  • Yeah, I drink a tall mocha every weekday. I watch my caffiene for the rest of the day, but my little man seems totally fine in there so far.

I guess im horrible... i drink a least 5 glasses of tea a day sometimes more...doctor doesnt seem to have an issue since ive made it this long and my child isnt deformed or mentally hindered...

  • mmm...i LOVE cherry pepsi!

And I'll admit I have one caffeinated drink most days of the week.  A tall latte at starbucks has 75 mg of caffeine so I don't feel too bad about it.

  • My doctor said "upwards of 200mg of caffeine is fine." She's a mommy, and she drank caffeine while pregnant. I have caffeine everyday, though I have cut back since BFP.
  • I drink a coffee and/or soda every day.  My OB says 200-300 mg  a day is totally fine.
  • I tried so hard to go completely off of caffeine.  I did it for the most part during the first trimester, but now I'm with you on one soda a day.
  • I've had a soda every once in a while just b/c I was trying to kick caffeine before my BFP. I didn't have any for my first 12wks but now enjoy a Dr. Pepper every once in while.

My Dr. actually said it was okay to drink 6 sodas or 2 cups of coffee A DAY!!!  I thought that was amazing!

  • I drink coffee or soda every day.  My OB said anything less than 3 cups a day was fine.
  • I waited 5 years for The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf to open in Austin and it does the week I find out I am pregnant.  I enjoy a coffee drink or 2 a week and my doctor doesn't have a problem with it.  There is usually some person who doesn't know me that give me the evil eye for being there with a drink in hand.  Makes it more fun that way......
  • Yeah, I don't think anyone here is shooting. ;)

I drink a cup of coffee a few times a week, and I have a coke every now and then too (helps with the headaches I've been getting!).

  • My OB's office said 200mg caffeine (or less) a DAY.  So, really, if I wanted to, I could have a small/tall coffee beverage and a soda, or two coffees, or two sodas, or three teas..... you name it, I can mix it up to get to about 200mg.  I try to skip it altogether on days I don't work.  But I work nights, so before I go in, I usually have a cup of my husband's homemade coffee -- it's so strong it could put hair on your chest, but it's soooo good!
  • I point blank asked my OB at my last visit (mostly bc DH was being the caffeine police).  He told me to drink "what ever bloody caffeine I wanted" within moderation of course.  He said that the caffeine rule (and cursing.. LOL) were the only 2 rules I was allowed to break :)
