Babies: 3 - 6 Months

please tell me im not alone..

I cannot, for the life of me, get Dawson to nap in his crib. No matter how many times i do drowsy but awake or completely asleep.. he still wakes up and screams bloody murder until i give in and put him in his swing. I dont know what to do anymore. I seriously give up and i will build him a freaking swing to sleep in until he is 18 if i have to. I just dont know what to do.

ETA: He sleeps wonderfully all night long in his crib tho.. its the napping that is killing me!

Re: please tell me im not alone..

  • We are also having a hard time getting DS to sleep in his crib. He doesn't scream, but wakes immediately and won't go back to sleep. I have resorted to getting him to sleep on the bed with pillows surrounding him or in the swing. I would try wearing him down, maybe that would help. Its weird because my MIL can get him to nap in the PNP all day when she watches him. GL!

  • I don't really have advice for you as DS sleeps and naps in his Nap Nanny.  But if it makes you feel better, you and I both know he won't be sleeping in his swing til he's 18!

    Cheer up babe!

  • I am in the same boat.

  • try putting the swing in his room for day naps. he may need to get acclimated to the room during the day.

he is used to it at night, but he may be used to napping during daylight in the room where the swing is. move the place he "likes" to nap to the room you want him to nap in.. then transition him to the crib.

this is also a good way to get baies used to the crib at night. just put the bassinet/PnP in there room for a few weeks, before you put them in the crib for the first time.

  • Mary has never napped in her crib!  She always wakes up in a couple of minutes crying.  She will nap in her bouncer though.  I stopped trying to get her to nap in her crib early on.  She sleeps great in her crib at night though.
  • I could of written the same post.  Jacob will not nap in his crib at all.  I've given up.

  • Gianna won't nap in her crib either.  She has been sleeping on me for the past 2 1/2 months, or in the car when we are out and about.  She goes to daycare tomorrow so I guess they will get her to nap in her crib.

I don't have any advice but the advice PP gave you sounds like a great idea. I think you also need to be consistent so he can get use to his room during the day. GL!

This sounds like great advice!   Especially by the sounds of him waking up in a panic.  He's probably not used to the room and he's scared.

Also, DS has to have the room pretty dark (especially now, all he wants to do is look around), do you have thick curtains for blinds?

  • DD will only nap in the Moby and possibly the swing during the day. She sleeps like a dream in her crib at night. I'm pretty sure if we didn't coax her to nap in the Moby wrap, she would be napping a LOT less nowadays...

This is kind of what we did. I put his swing in his room and he took naps and slept in it. I would wait until he was asleep and turn it off. Friday night we put him in his crib and he fussed for 2 hours on and off and I went in there every 5 minutes. He hasn't had any problems sleeping or napping in his crib since.

  • Right with you on this one. She will from time to time take a nap in crib but very rarely. Honestly, really does not nap much during the day to begin with.

That's great advice! I'm definately going to give it a shot.

This.  I finally gave up & just let her nap on me.  She starts daycare next week though - I know they won't let her do that so I'm really nervous.

  • We have the same problem, except DS will not sleep except on us.  He sleeps fine in his crib at night.

  • Uh, I still can't get DD to sleep in her crib at night (still in bassinet) and she still naps in her swing (will not nap in bassinet or crib)....but I figure as long as she is happy, then it is okay for now, she will let me know when she is ready but I keep trying!!
