2nd Trimester

Anyone get their gender determination at 18 weeks?

We had our ultrasound today...She said it was a girl and had a couple good times to check, however for some reason..I still feel unsure...

I really wanted a girl and am completely overjoyed but not sure if I should run out go crazy with PINK everything...

Just wondering if 18 weeks is too soon to tell. With my first child it was a boy and it was soooo obvious....looked like a third leg...

Anyone else feel uncertain like me?

 Thanks!

Re: Anyone get their gender determination at 18 weeks?

  • I got mine at18w6d and the doctor was very sure... part of me was still skiddish to buy a bunch of pink. But I got over it and did anyway :)

  • i think that's when i found out the sex.
  • I got mine yesterday, and while I couldn't really tell from the US, she seemed really positive, so I am too.

I think the chances of them screwing up the gender determination this day and age is pretty slim. :D

  • On our third ultra sound on Nov 18th I'll be 18 weeks and we're going to determine the sex then. I had my second ultra sound this past week and the ultra sound tech wanted to make a call on the sex himself then and there (he said boy) but I told him I would stick it out until the 18th before jumping up and buying all blue.

  • found out at 17 weeks 2 days it was a girl.  She is still a girl!
  • I was 17 w 6 d when we had ours.
  • I'm having a u/s tuesday and my dr said they could tell as long as it was in a good position. She did say though that it'd be certain if it was a boy but don't go running out buying 1000 pink things if it looks like a girl, they won't give a positive answer on that until later, just a "likely" determination. As far as how common mis-determinations are..... I know 3 couples who were told wrong 2 had boys instead of girls and one had a girl instead of a boy( the latter being a really uncommon mistake)

  • My Doctor said at 18 weeks they can tell. I have mine on Tuesday and I will be 18 weeks. I know girls who found out at 14 or 15!!

    So excited for you!!

  • I had mine at 18 weeks 1 day and it was VERY clear that he is a boy. Very, very, very clear!
  • I had mine at 18 weeks and the tech said she was 99% sure it was a girl.  It was an elective u/s so she took her time and looked at her parts from a ton of different angles.  My g/f however was told my her drs office she was having a girl when she was around 18 weeks and she went back Friday and they think it's a boy now (she is now 22 weeks).  She has to wait another week to find out.  I would say after two visits of them confirming the same gender you should feel pretty confident.
  • Not too soon at all. Actually its the right time to find out. I found out at 14 weeks that it was a girl (my co-worker scanned me for the hell of it). I had my big u/s at 19 1/2 weeks and, yup, still a girl. Nothing sprouted, so-to-say.
  • I had my big u/s at 18 weeks, and it was clear as day that he was a boy. Reconfirmed last week at my 33 week growth u/s!

  • I found at with my son at 17 weeks and with this one at 17 weeks (girl). It was very obvious with my son, and I couldn't see antyhing at all sticking out, and she said she saw the 3 dots which indicate labia. I wanted a boy  though, so I would be so psyahced if they were wrong!

Sorry for the underlining, I couldn't get it off!

  • Had mine yesterday at 18w3d and it was clearly a boy, so I would trust whatever they told you.  I found out with my son at 15 w (later confirmed at 17w3d).  The gender is definitely determinable at 18 weeks.  Go buy pink!

  • We had ours at 18w 2d and there was no mistaking that it's a boy.  His parts were all hanging out for all the world to see.

  • I was not given an answer at 18w she was too shy. The tech said she thought it was a girl, but said she did not get a good enough look. 2 weeks later it was a confirmed girl. I saw the "lack of it" myself.
  • Mine was a few days before 16 weeks, and they're still sure :)
  • At 18w3d we were told girl by both the tech and doctor confirmed.  Today 19w6d we had another one (elective because I also wanted to be certain) and it looks even more sure.  This tech actually said 100% and this time I could see the 3 lines.  In the first one I couldn't see boy parts but I also couldn't make out the 3 lines even though the tech said she could see them.

    Have fun!

  • We went to a 4D place and they said they can tell at 15 weeks.  We just went today for gender and he said we are, without a doubt, having a girl. 18 weeks shouldn't be too soon to tell at all, our tech said that it is very obvious when it's a boy, as long as you can get a between the legs shot.

  • 17w5days.  It was a boy and still is.  I think a boy is easy to figure out but who knows.  I think I would go register for girl stuff if I were you :)
  • We found out at 18w1d.  even then I kind of wonder if it was to early because the doctor said the parts usually look like a turtle.  He said our little guy's parts looked like a snail.
  • Found out at 18w5d it was a girl (MUCH to our surprise) and then reconfirmed with a 3D elective U/S who also confirmed it, and I got to see 3 lines. :)
  • I was 18wks with ds.  It was obvious he was a boy.
  • We found out we were having a lil boy at 17 weeks and 2 days. It was totally a boy though we saw his junk! :P

  • enjoy buying pink

  • We found out at 18 weeks and was confirmed again at 20 weeks.

  • I got mine at 18.5 weeks, and they were very confident.  Of course, I have a boy and I feel like boys look a little more obvious, but I know plenty of other gals who have had their girls' sex determined pretty early.

  • They told me the gender at the end of my 15th week, I thought it was pretty obvious it was a boy, but I was also told boy at 11 weeks...which I knew not to really rely on.  Maybe harder with a girl because it isn't as obvious?  or is it?

    Congrats!!

  • 18w 5 d and they were very sure.
