3rd Trimester

Starting maternity leave early :(

I don't get paid maternity leave, but the upside is that I can take off as much time as I want.

I'm starting my leave November 15th. I'm bummed, I really wanted to make it longer. I waitress, and I just physically can't do it anymore. After working last night I felt so much pressure in my entire pelvic area and had a ton of BH, which is also uncomfortable. DH thinks I should stop sooner, so does my mom, but I'm fine with the 15th.

I am going to be so bored! And broke!

Re: Starting maternity leave early :(

  • I don't get paid maternity leave either so I planned to work up until I delivered!  Unfortunately I had to start my leave this week at 38 weeks because my hands are so swollen and numb!  I know its only two weeks, but its two extra weeks I won't get paid and I'm not counting on LO coming early so I'm really bummed that I can't work anymore.  My return to work date is set for Jan. 5th no matter when LO comes so I'm really hoping she gets here soon!

  • I'm sorry - I remember your post about wanting to work till 36 weeks so that's a bummer. I had to leave my job early due to pelvic pressure and BH contractions as well. My Dr. just couldn't let me keep going. Try not to stress about money and your new home - things have a way of working out and I will be keeping you in my thoughts!
  • what abgout a temp agency in your area. that way you can get a temp office type job where you sit or get phones or something and still have some money coming in. the ones in my area will have jobs for the day, the week sometimes for a month.

    just something to think about

Thanks for thinking of me! I'm bummed, but I know it's better for me and LO. I really don't want to have him early, and feeling like I do now freaks me out. I'm hoping I'm the first woman in my family to have a full term babies. 34 weeks seems to be the "magic number" for my mom, aunts and grandma, so I'd like to break the cycle.

  • You need to take care of yourself and baby. Believe me you don't want a preemie! Baby needs to cook!

  • Seems to happen alot, starting leave early. I had to start mine a week early, just too uncomfortable and my commute is 45min to an hour and I'm afraid I'll go into labor while driving.

Does your state offer any type of paid family leave?

  • I'm surprised you're able to make it that long. Wow!

  • I am contemplating the same thing. I am a GM of a restaurant and every night I end up crying at one point because I am in so much pain. My doctor just keeps saying delegate. yeah no, it doesn't work that way. I go next TH for my 32 week appt and I am going to beg to figure out an earlier option. Good luck. I feel your pain.

  • I feel your pain.  I am a nurse in a pretty busy ER and I am going to finish out the schedule I am already on, but I am done after that.  So that means I will be going out at 31 weeks.  I kind of thought I would make it longer, but my body is killing me.  I ususally work 12 hour shifts, but cut back to 6 hour shifts about 2 weeks ago and that is not even working.  I am someone who if I am working, I am going to do it all.  I have been pushing gurneys with 300 lb men on it, pulling people up in bed and we even get combative people.  So I am calling it a day, making my last day Nov 5.  Hopefully I will make it throught flu season unscathed!   My midwife said she would sign the paperwork for me to go out on disablilty as soon as I was ready.  I say, don't overdo it.  It would be awful to hurt yourself or go into PL because you pushed yourself too hard.
  • With DS (and this one), I didn't get paid maternity leave. I had to go out at 24 weeks due to complications and was put on bedrest. I was freaking out about being broke, but really it is the best thing. Do whatever the dr's tell you. By 36 weeks, I was SO uncomfortable, I was so happy that I wasn't allowed to work. Good luck!
  • Thank you guys for making me feel better about it!
