3rd Trimester

Just read your thread about your room being cold.

Is it on the 2nd floor of your house?  If it is, have you tried closing some (or most) of the vents on the main floor or in your basement?

Our bedroom is directly over our (uninsulated) garage and has 3 outside walls, so it's pretty cold in the winter too, but I've found that closing vents downstairs directs more heat upstairs and it makes our room a lot warmer.

We also have a small electric space heater for the super cold nights - it really warms things up but doesn't make it *too* warm, just comfortable.

You've probably thought of all that stuff, but just in case ;)

HTH!

Re: ::ibis::

  • Yes, our bedroom is a converted attic. I don't think it's drafty, but the issue is there is one tiny blower to heat the entire floor! Just a bad design.

    We tried closing the basement vents last year but our heating bill shot up like crazy. I have heard that this makes the furnace work harder because it has to blow air into a bunch of dead ends, or something like that.

    I re-checked my thermostat program and discovered I had the nighttime temp set only to 62. So obviously that is part of my problem! Sometimes it's the most obvious things, I swear... if it's really unbearable after we try turning up the thermostat we will probably look into a space heater. Thanks!
