August is soo fussy! Today he has been pretty much crying most of the morning. That is when he is not taking one of his 20 minute cat naps because he doesn't feel like taking a real nap! My mom is even up helping me and I am still going to lose my mind. I think he is my new birth control! lol
Is this normal to be fussy morning noon and night? Seriously I cant take it. Advice please!
Re: I'm losing my mind!
Have you read Happiest Baby on the Block? It has very helpful suggestions. It's a pretty quick read; I read it while nursing DD. There is a video version, but I think the book is more thorogh.
Sorry Angel
But some babies are just more sensitive than others. It WILL get better eventually. The first month is the hardest (especially the first 2 weeks). Hang in there!!
Oh, and tips in the mean time:
-- At that age, DD wanted to be laying face-down on my chest at all times.
-- She also ate a ton - almost constantly. (In case you are like I was and thinking "there's no way you can still be hungry" until an LC assures you they are and it's normal
-- Try letting him go without a diaper (lay a prefold or open disposable under his tushy).
-- Try swaddling (tight, tight, tight) or wearing him. DD hated being swaddled, but lots of babies like it. DD hated the moby, but loved LOVED being in the ergo, in the newborn insert like a taco.
-- Some babies like to be rocked, other swing, and others bounced. Try them all! My niece is very sensitive and intense (read: extremely fussy) and she liked to be hugged close in an upright (vertical) position, with her her head on my chest, back rapidly patted while I bounced little, quick bounces. DD on the other hand hated that and preferred laying in our arms horizontally with her head hang backward over our arm and hugged to our body tightly, preferably while walking. She didn't like to be in the swing awake when she was very young, but she napped great in it.
-- Try co-sleeping.
-- Try music or (loud) white noise. I know it sounds cliche, but classical music calms DD. And she was happiest in a loud room with lots of talking, like a bar (yes, I took my newborn to a bar b/c I'm klassy like that
. Some babies love the vacuum, dryer, or shower.
Thanks Ladies! I will have to try these things!
Oh, and angel, I thought of something else last night. August is probably super over-tired (as I'm sure you are aware). Sleep begets sleep. Once you figure out how to get him calm, try to get him to nap every 1.5 hours or so. It varies from baby to baby and from day to day, but it's a good rule of thumb.
Can't believe I forgot that - it has been huge for us. Best advice I ever got.
I would go to the Lactation Consultant and make sure he is getting enough breast milk. He could be hungry. Also, how is he in the car? A little car ride with the base on the radio turned up always made my little guy fall asleep. The super swaddle is a great tool to use as well. It is a bit more snug than the regular swaddle and makes them feel a bit more secure. Hope this helps.
