house cleaning schedule

I find cleaning the house an everyday thing. I can't seem to manage my time right where I spend part of my day cleaning this or that and then the rest is for kids, cooking, free time. Does anyone else have this problem? How do you make it work? What kind of schedule do you work with?

Re: house cleaning schedule

  • no advice here b/c the house always seems to be in a mess.  originally, i planned on cleaning/straightening up 1-2 rooms a day and keep that schedule.  didn't work.  i LIVE in the kitchen - cleaning and cooking - ugh!  the only thing that really gets me motivated is knowing when we have company coming over.  other than that, the house is straightened up, but not necessarily spot-check clean.

  • I do one big thing a day- in addition to the constant straightening up. one day it is the bathrooms, one day laundry, one day vacuuming, etc.

dishes, kitchen, cooking, etc.. gets done every day.

  • Flylady.com is supposed to have a good schedule.  I'm off to see the website now.

  • i posted about this a couple of weeks ago. I do one main room a day and then one day I have a full sweep. I find that picking up little things as you go to "declutter" really keeps the house much tidier than it probably is. I went on martha stewarts website and found a couple of really good lists of the things to consider needing cleaned. it was good to look at and contemplate.
  • i'm a schedule person and i like routine. however, i can't ever seem to stick to a schedule for housecleaning. i don't enjoy it, and before my days as a SAHM, i had a maid come a couple of times a month. i am quite capable of cleaning, and i love an orderly house. i think it's just that it is not on the top of my priority list, unless we are having people over or hosting a shower or something. i find that if i'm in the mood to clean, i run with it!!! yesterday, i started cleaning some stuff in my room right after i put DS down for a nap, and an hour later i realized i had thouroughly cleaned almost all of my house! i just got on a roll and went with it. i guess what i'm saying is, if you can't stick to a schedule, just try to do as much as possible in those 10 to 15 minutes of time you randomly have. it helps me to keep a bucket of cleaning supplies well stocked so i can carry it with me as i clean. if it's ready to go, i can move fast!

I pretty much feel the exact same way.  Although I am a list and schedule person by nature, I can't get on a schedule with cleaning.  Some days I don't want to, some days DD requires more time/supervision/attention, and sometimes she is happy playing alone and I have a lot of motivation.  Then when I wouldn't stick to my schedule I would get annoyed.  So, I loosely stick with the plan that I have to clean something daily and am good about cleaning up behind us as we go.
