Pregnant after 35

Should I be worried/concerned?

Still really haven't felt any movement...and I've been trying to be aware of things that feel like "gas bubbles" or "flutters" but so far have felt nothing.

I had some extra padding on my tummy to begin with but not a lot...but maybe that has something to do with it?

And I used my friend's doppler to listen for the HB the other day and found it loud & clear so I at least know there's something in there! Stick out tongue

Re: Should I be worried/concerned?

  • Don't stress yourself out - everyone's experience is so different.  I didn't gain all that much weight & wasn't overwieght to begin with, and I didn't really start to feel her until about week 21.  My poor DH couldn't feel her until almost week 30.  No matter how much she was moving around like crazy, she would completely stand still as soon as his hand touched my belly!  LOL!

  • I didn't feel movement until my 19th week. My dr. told me not to expect anything until after 20 weeks. I think you are fine. If you are concerned then call your doctor. Good luck.

  • I don't think you have anything to worry about. There are a lot of factors that influence when you feel the baby and it's common not to feel it till after 20 weeks. But I hope you get a good swift kick soon because it is truly amazing and great.

  • I felt my first flutter at 20w1d,  but even then it was very few and far between for the first week or so

  • You are only a week behind when I felt my first movements.  Could be a few factors.  Any chance you have an anterior placenta?  Or maybe you have a mellow baby (nice thought).  I get a little worried sometimes that mine is going to be fussy since the movements seem a little jerky sometimes.  Like the LO is mad about something.  Just my weird way of thinking though...

  • Daisy - I don't know if I have an anterior placenta or not...I've only had 1 U/S so far and my OB didn't say anything about it.   Will know more on 11/5!

And it wouldn't suprise me if this baby was mellow...my husband is the most laid back person I know..and sooooo ssssllllooooowwww to do anything.

His nickname is seriously Slow-C instead of O'C (last name O'Callahan).

  • no, don't stress about this - esp since you've heard the hb the other day.

i was feeling movement for a good week before I realized it was actual movement and not intestinal issues!!!

  • I would not be concerned. I haven't felt anything either, my ob said this week it is possible for me not to feel anything until around week 20, I do have an anterior placenta as of the last ultrasound.
  • Don't worry - I didn't feel regular movement until about 25 weeks or so.  I am well padded and had an anterior placenta, prevented me feeling things sooner.
    DD1 is 3, DD2 is 1.
  • DS #1 was a crazy little mover and shaker in there toward the end but I didn't feel him until 20-21 weeks maybe?  And then it was the slight little bubbles.  From there it takes awhile to really feel them kicking around.  Then you wonder what it felt like to have your stomache to yourself!
  • I agree with everyone, don't be too worried. I didn't feel anything for a while either, and H has only felt an outside kick once. (I do have an anterior placenta.)

  • no.  Your little peanut is still very tiny and may not be strong enough for you to feel movement yet.  It could also have to do with where the baby is in your ute, if he/she is facing inward toward your back, you may not feel as much as early, also, if you have anterior placenta, you likely won't feel regular movement til much further along.  You likely have felt movement just not realized that's what it is.  After you feel and know it was the baby you will go back in your mind and say....oh so that's what that was.
