I want to microchip my kids!

All of this missing/killed kids news is making me want to microchip my girls so that if GOD FORBID anything happen, I could find them.

My heart is just breaking for all of these poor families....

I would do it in a heartbeat if it came with GPS type capabilities, you know, satellite tracking and all of that.

I'm actually kinda surprised someone has tried to market this type of thing yet. With as scary as the world is, and as much CRAP that parents will buy, I'm surprised this hasn't come up yet.

If it came with GPS capabilities, then I too would buy in. In a heartbeat. I don't care what anyone says.

I'm sure someone has already developed the technology, trust me. It's probably just tied up in political/moral red tape.

I would also consider chipping my kids. Honestly, I'd probably be for chipping everyone.

I think they are hard to remove, b/c tissue can grow around it or something grody like that.

But whatever, I'll stop looking them up when they're adults on the GPS program. You could probably "turn it off" or change the coordinates or something - I don't speak tech geek, so I probably sound like an idiot.

Or maybe they can put microchips in their shoes or something? I mean, COME ON!

DH mentioned the shoes, but shoes come off.

Exactly. It needs to be surgically imbedded under the skin. Pervs oftentimes make kids remove/change their clothes/shoes, so they're not as easily identified.

Ugh, I'm so morbid, I know, but all I can think is that if the technology existed to have the microchips, the technology would exist to detect the chips. Then we'd have sickos cutting them out of kids . . . sorry, I said I was morbid.

I seriously think it's not a bad idea, provided that it was something removeable upon their 18th birthday or something. I for one would have no problem knowing exactly where my children were whenever I wanted - - especially during the teen years!

I know, all of this missing child stuff has my stomach in knots lately...they can go so very quickly.

I don't get why my phone can tell me where it is, but my kid can't. It really can't be that hard, but of course, we have to keep "privacy" I would at least like to have a GPS chip inserted in DD and DS that would spontaneously combust at 17.

While I can understand why people would want to do this, and while everytime I hear about a kid going missing or getting kidnapped I am worried and feel very bad for the families, I could never do that to my kids (I am currently prego with #1). I think it's part of a responsibility thing to teach your kids proper safety and when they are in the teenage years, I think it's a matter of trust. No matter what though, whether there would be a chip or not, bad stuff happens because there is sickos out there and I think that having chips would just lead to different types of problems (aka - big brother type stuff....)

I'm going to be sweet and leave the "I'll never do that to my kids" comment from the new to-be-mommy alone... ah, I remember those lovely days when I, too, was full of "I'm never going to" beliefs LOL.

It's a step up from the Brickhouse product you see advertised on the Duracell commercial - it's actually a child GPS device, but is something you would need to put into a pocket, etc. I've seriously considered it for my child (btw, no matter how much we "talk" about safety, he just doesn't get it cognitively at 3 1/2 y/o - LOL)

You may well change your mind once the baby isn't inside of you any more. Being pregnant is a whole different kettle of fish than actual parenting.

I am the least neurotic mom around, but even I would consider a chip if it had GPS.

I have thought the very same thing. However if putting GPS devices on children became a common thing then the kidnappers would just find a way to take them out.
