Hi ladies,
I was just wondering if any of you are in the same boat as me. I'm almost 28 week along and as of last Friday I had put on 23lbs. That would be find except that I started out about 10-15 lbs overweight, so my midwife is recommending that I try not to gain any more weight so that the baby doesn't get too big (I don't have GD or high blood pressure right now, luckily). I'm doing a food journal and trying to exercise (I've only managed to get to the gym twice this week). I haven't gotten on the scale, but I'm just frustrated and not liking this one bit since I'm just hungry most of the time. Anyway, just venting. Thanks for reading!
Re: Anyone else watching their weight gain closely?
I was for a while but it started to bum me out. I had gained 20 pounds by 20 weeks, but it has slowed down and now I think I am up 26 pounds at 31 weeks. After checking my weight a few times a week and getting discouraged, I decided that I'd rather just know that I am getting exercise regularly and keeping healthy activity up instead of being a slave to the scale. In the long run I think that's more important anyway. I walk about 2-3 miles a day, and have started swimming 3 days a week. More than anything, the exercise helps me sleep.

I'm up about 22 lbs at 29 weeks. I was at the very top of the "normal" scale pre-pregnancy and my doc wanted a total gain of 25 lbs. Oops.
I am watching my gain in the sense that I am not using pregnancy as an excuse to eat whatever/whenever, but I feel pretty strongly that if I'm hungry I should eat.
So much of what you gain between now and birth has little to do with what you eat. What if you get bad swelling? Your baby also will be gaining the bulk of his/her weight between now and 40 weeks.
I would focus on healthy food choices and getting some exercise, but not going hungry or trying to diet. You may be lucky and find that your gain slows way down. Some women tend to gain the bulk during second tri/early third. I hope that's me! :0
I have totally given up all control of my body to my baby... There are weeks I feel way more hungry and I'm scared to get on the scale at the dr's, and those are the times I gain 1 lb in 3 weeks. Then there are weeks where I feel like I have watch what I eat and get my exercise in, and those are the weeks I gain a ridiculous amount in a week or two.
After this, I really do believe that your body does what it does.
This. That is not healthy or even probable.
I have gained much more than I wanted to (over 40 lbs, ugh) even though I have been fairly good about my eating-- my doctors know this, and they said 1-that this baby is surrounded by a lot of fluid and 2- all I can really do is eat healthy and avoid salt. They didn't tell me to stop gaining weight at any time, and they have even said that where I am is still in the range of healthy.
