i'd just get straight up lansinoh ointment - its pure lanolin. but i never used anything else... well, not true, i did try this british product called Kamillosan or something like that. Didn't like it.
It's the only kind I tried. The Medela kind is not pure lanolin, and I don't know if there are any other brands of medical grade lanolin that are readily available.

Medela does have some that is pure lanolin, it's what I used. But I was "prescribed" it so maybe it's not the same as you buy in the stores (although I think it is).
Anyway, I also would go with the pure lanolin and not the cream regardless of what brand.

can you tell from the product description if it's pure lanolin? i'm not sure..

I would think because of that statement it is pure lanolin but you'd have to look at the ingredient list to be sure.
I *HATED* the Lansinoh stuff. It's so thick and gloopy. I found it difficult and somewhat painful to spread that stuff on sore nipples. I bought something called nipple butter. I think there was a 'Bee' in the name. SOOOO much better! Too bad, because I have a tube of Lansinoh I used only a few times.
if all you want is 100% lanolin, then just get the store brand stuff for like 1/10 the price of the Lansinoh. However, I agree it was hard to apply that stuff (esp in my cold house), so I found I liked the Medela Tender Care stuff much better. I only used maybe 1/6th the tube, and that was using it ALL THE TIME the first 2 months, (and also on my dry cracked cuticles.)

I went through several tubes of this stuff! Still have one in my pump bag and one in the bathroom - though now just use intermittently.

Re: lansinoh breast cream - opinions?
CVS carries one under their name.

I think the cream is the lanolin. It's the purple tube.
I agree with pps--would've died w/o my lanolin. Plus you can use it on your woolies!
is it seriously the same stuff?? this friend isn't doing cloth but i totally will be and it would be *awesome* to have a dual use for something!!

yeah, you just want the medical grade stuff for BFing (since baby will essentially eat some of it) but leftovers work for wool too
