H1N1 Vaccine- has anyone had a flu shot while pregnant before??

I went to my first doctors appointment yesterday and my doctor says she really recommends I get vaccinated and to be honest I have never had a flu shot before, and really don't take any medications at all, so I nervous about the side affects. Maybe if anyone has had regular flu shots and haven't had any problems it could relieve some of my stress.  I have Crohns disease and felt like a guinea pig most my young life and just don't want to go thru that again.  I have been healthy now for about 6 years and am so excited to be pregnant, I am just really nervous!!  Thank you- nervous Momma

  • I had the flu shot last year while pregnant and I felt fine.  I'm definitely getting it next week when I go to my OB.

  • I get the season flu shot every year, and especially when I was pregnant with DS. No side effects at all and he is just fine. I will be getting both the seasonal next week and the H1N1 as soon as I can locate it.

  • I get the regular flu shot just about every year, and I have never had any side effects, except maybe a sore arm b/c they put it in your muscle. However, every person is different! I got this years seasonal flu vacc before I knew I was pregnant. However, I did get my H1N1 shot a few days ago as they made rounds on our unit. So far, no side effects from that either!

  • I got the regular flu shot at my first appointment. I have not recieved the regular flu shot since I was a little girl. I just had a sore arm and kinda felt a little nausea but other than that I was fine. I knew I would be getting the regular flu shot so I was prepared for that. For the H1N1 shot I don't think I will be getting that one. I'm still anti when it comes to that vaccine.

  • I got the regular, seasonal flu shot a few weeks ago (preservative free). No side effects, didn't even hurt my arm (I feel like in year's past it my arm had been sore, but not this time).
  • i got the regular flu while pregnant with DS, however, i was 7 months pg. i had ZERO complications.

i did, reluctantly, get one today and i feel weird about it.  my arm hurts like a MOTHER and i feel woozy.

i don't want to, but will get teh H1N1.  i was compeltely opposed to it, but it's rampant in my commuity right now.

  • I got the regular seasonal flu a couple of weeks ago (in first tri) for the first time in my life.  No side effects.  I got the H1N1 this morning. Since it is made in exactly the same way that the seasonal flu shot is made every year, I am sure I won't have any side effects from this one either.
  • I got the seasonal vax at 8w3d and only had a sore arm for a few days - it was the first time I've ever gotten a flu shot. I was able to locate the H1N1 vax today and got that as well. Personally, the benefits such as protecting myself and my LO who can't be vaccinated until 6 months of age, were worth any short-term side effects.
  • I get the flu shot every single year and have never had so much as a sore arm from the injection site.

I got the TRUE flu once about 15 years ago and it was horrible.  I was literally out of work for 3 solid weeks and it was months before I felt completely recovered.

Get the shot, and stop worrying.

I just got my regular flu shot last weekend and when my doctor gets in the H1N1, I am getting that too.

  • Yes, ladies, talk her into it.

H1N1 is made in the exact same way that the regular flu shot is, so if you are ok with the regular one it makes no sense why you would be anti H1N1. 1 in 3 pregnant women who have been hospitalized for H1N1 have DIED. Why risk it?

  • Your arm muscle might be a little sore, that's all.
  • I am pg for the 1st time and just got my seasonal flu shot and I finally got scheduled for my H1N1 vaccine next Thursday.  I know you will be fine!
  • Thank you all for your input- it does make me feel better about it!!!! Smile

That siggy pic is the funniest thing I've seen in awhile.

I got my seasonal flu shot a few days before I found out I was PG.  I will be getting the H1N1 vax as soon as it becomes available to me.  The theoretical risks to me/baby of the flu shot pale in comparison to the risk to me and my baby should I contract the actual flu. Pregnant women are dying of H1N1 at a rate that is disproportionate to other members of the population.  It's a fact.

Although I don't agree with it, I can see someone not choosing to get either one.  However, why would you be okay with the regular flu shot but not the H1N1? And don't say it's because the H1N1 is "new", the flu shot is always new, every year.  There is nothing special about the swine flu vax, it is simply a vax for a specific strain of flu, the same as the seasonal flu shot.

  • I got the regular flu shot when I was pg with my son at about 20 weeks. I had never gotten a flu shot before but the OB recommended it. I had no reactions at all. I am planning to get both flu shots this year just to be on the safe side.
