ShannonL.K - restaurants in the 'Ville

I'm in Louisville as well and figured I'd start a post about great restaurants you should consider.  I would suggest checking out Ramsey's or Palermo if you are near the Highlands Bardstown Rd area.  And Toast for breakfast/brunch on Market street may have a wait but is excellent.

  • Palermo Viejo is one of my most favorite places in town!!  I am a bit of a foodie nut and love to encourage visitors to try some of the local places instead of the same old chain restaurants.   I would add the following to my personal fave list: Baxter Station (I always bring out of town guests here); Havana Rumba (cuban); Cafe Lou Lou; New Albanian Brewing Company (BBQ); Bourbon's Bistro; Captain's Quarters (if the weather is nice, dining outside is a plus!).

  • Oh ladies!  I live in L'ville about 15 years ago and NONE of those places existed back then.... I lived right between Frankfort and Brownsboro Aves.in an area full of really cool old mansions that were turned into apartments.

Any of these places/dives still around?  (You can tell I was young and single back in my KY days!)

Butchertown Pub, Phoenix Hill (or Penis Thrill, as we called it!), Jack Fry's, Kingfish, The Twig and Leaf for late night grease....   Oh man--Tumbleweed!!!!   It was right down the hill from work and we ate there ALL the time!

  • Butchertown Pub is gone, but PHT is still thriving quite nicely!  Jack Fry's is still one of the "hot" places to go especially for fancy Derby guests and T&L is such an awesome dive!!!!   Kingfish and Tumbleweed are still local staples as well.

We moved to the 'ville in 1998 and I am still amazed at how much this funky little town has grown since we first got here.  You would be shocked (pleasantly) at all the changes!!!

  • Aw.... thanks for the memories!  Glad to hear some of my favs are still around!

I was only in Lou for about  1 1/2 years, but I LOVED it!  Worked at Ch 32 and it was a crazy time of partying and drinking way too much and just having fun being a single girl!  Sigh!

Thanks!   We have a lot of great local places here in Bloomington too so we are definitely not what you would call "chain people".  Local places are the best in my opinion.  You can eat at Outback anywhere and anytime. :)
