milk leaking around flanges?

I notice that when I pump I always get some milk leaking down around the bottom of the flange. It gets messy when I pull the flange off because it drips out. I am going back to work and don't want to wear my milk everyday. Could this be a flange size issue or maybe I need to hold the flanges tighter to my breasts when I pump? I am a size DD right now and just use the flanges that came with the pump. They seem to fit right according to the diagrams I have seen. Anyone have ideas for a solution?

Re: milk leaking around flanges?

  • This happens to me too. I haven't found a way around it, but I do put a paper towel on my lap when I'm pumping at work so it doesn't drip on me.

  • The same thing happens to me. I just put a towel or burp cloth on my lap to prevent it from leaking on my clothes.
  • You probably need the next size up. Mine doesn't leak but when I take the flanges off, I lean far forward and sort of "scoop" them away from the breast. They did leak when I used smaller ones. Good luck!
