Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Emerson has swine flu

I'm so worried about her.  Apparently we got it early enough and are able to take the Tamiflu (sp?).

The Tamiflu is on back order everywhere.  I drove around, freaking out, for two hours this morning trying to find it.  I finally had to go to a compound pharmacy and get them to make it for her.

For the first time in my life I needed medicine quickly and couldn't get my hands on it.  It was horrible!

  • Justin had it this week. It was bad for the first 18 hours or so, and he has been feeling pretty good since then. It really wasn't nearly as bad as what the hype has made it out to be. Less than 72 hours later, and you'd never know he was sick. He didn't take Tamiflu.

ETA: I hope Emerson feels better soon.

  • How scary for you! Poor little thing. I hope she's better soon.

  • Glad you got some Tamiflu!  We got the run-around from pharmacies earlier this week, but the Tamiflu has seemed to help DD (diagnosed Tuesday).

Hope she has a quick recovery!  FWIW - my DD seemed to have one really bad day (Tuesday), then went uphill from there.  She still doesn't have much of an appetite, but the fever is way down and she's back to playing/smiling again.

  • Poor thing - I hope she feels better, soon.

Any idea how she picked it up or where she was exposed?

  • Poor baby, I hope she feels better soon.

Do you know where/how she got it? Did she or you get the vaccination? Do you have to do anything differently to make sure you don't get it as well?

  • That really is scary, I would have been a nervous wreck trying to find a pharmacy to help me. I hope she feels better soon!

She goes to a Mother's Day Out three times a week.  I called them this morning and they said nobody was at school today so, I'm thinking that they all have it!

The vax isn't available here yet.  I was planning on it.  We all have had our regular flu shot though-which doesn't make a difference in this case.   I asked the dr if my H or I should get the tamiflu as well and she said no.

Honestly she didn't have a feaver.  Just a clear colored runny nose and would scream out in pain yesterday just out of the blue and very clingy. When she woke this morning, I could tell she didn't feel good at all just looking at her.

i'm curious is it standard procedure for you ped's office to swab for swine-flue? my ped office doesn't even do that and I asked 3 of my irl friends who have good peds in our area and they got they same reaction. it's like they are dismissing the reality that this is serious but also curable if caught in time. i don't get it.
