Parenting after a Loss

POLL - how much do you pay for childcare?

Childcare is really inexpensive for active duty military... We were thinking about hiring a nanny, but it would be exponentially more expensive. I'm willing to pay the $$ if the care is exponentially better - but that is not always the case. Full-time childcare on base would cost me less than $500 per month whereas a nanny is more like $30,000 per year... What do you ladies pay in your area? Tried to do a clicky poll but my iPhone won't let me :(

Re: POLL - how much do you pay for childcare?

  • We are extremely fortunate - we found an in-home provider that we LOVE. Not only is she wonderful with Megan, she is only $100/week! That works out to $2/hour - it's ridiculous. We provide diapers/wipes/breastmilk.

Some of the centers we were looking at ranged from $150-200/week and some were close to $1000 per month! It varies a lot.

  • I have no advice :( my Mom watches my daughter.

But I hope you find a good option soon

  • $45/day just outside of Boston.
  • Centers around here are about $1200.  I didn't look into in-home much, but the difference didn't seem to be huge.
  • ours will be $1400/mth, full time up to 60 hrs/wk

  • We have a family friend who watches the girls and I pay $250/wk and provide diapers/formula/bottles and all the boppies/bouncy seats, swings and toys...if we went with an actual in home dc or center it would be somewhere around $300-400 week.  Good luck!
  • We live in the city of atlanta and pay $1480/month for Bailey's school. This is really going to depend on where you live and it varies so much. Also it varies in what each center/place is going to provide. We only provide diapers, change of clothes, bottles, and baby food. Once he starts eating table food, they provide the food.

  • $225 a week for daycare at a friend's house. There will only be 3 kids there including my DD so I'm pretty excited. We provide formula, diapers and wipes.

  • We pay $175 a week and provide diapers.  She would provide formula if EC was on formula.  She'll provide food when we start lunch.

  • I pay my sister to watch J.  I pay her $200/week but she is always my cleaning person.  She cleans my house me for, top to bottom on Fridays...

center's around me typically start at $200/week and go up from there...

one of my neighbors has an in-home nanny m-f, 7:30 to 4pm and she pays her $400/week.

  • We go to an "inexpensive" center and it's about $1000 a month. :(  The really nice ones in our area are closer to $2000.  IF you can get your infant in - the wait list is out the door and around the corner.  Crazy.
