Need Advice on Sleep

Started putting DS in crib at one month. I'd give a bath, nurse and rock to sleep then lay him in his own room in his crib. He'd wake up every couple hours to nurse and would go back to sleep like a champ. BUT...

The past week he wakes up right when I set him down in his crib. I rock him to sleep, put him down and he wakes up again, we do this 4 or 5 times and last night I was so tired and felt bad for keeping DH up (he gets up at 5am for work) that I caved and brought DS to bed with us. He woke up constantly (does this kicking thing and jabs me in the tummy constantly). He woke up 5am for two hours, kicking and cooing like it was time to get up, he usually slept from 10pm to 8 or 9am with 2-3 feedings inbetween.

What do I do?? I feel like I am going backwards in progression. STTN seems so far away, I just want 3 good hours again.

Re: Need Advice on Sleep

  • Same exact thing happened to us. We transitioned to crib at 2 months. At 3 months, I guess the growth spurt started causing DS to wake up as soon as we put him down so that I was getting out of bed 6 times a night.

We starting to get out of the woods, but there was nothing we could do but wait for it to pass. Sorry, not much help, just wanted you to know it will likely pass. I tried my hardest not to bring him back into bed with us because I didn't want to have to transition back to the crib again. I think in the two weeks of pure hell I brought him to bed once.

  • It will probably pass, but maybe try putting him in his crib while he is still awake and try to soothe him to sleep while he is in his crib -  rub belly, hum, etc.   Pick him up when he fusses, calm him, put him back down.....it will probably take a few nights to get him to go sleep in his crib, but he might be startled to be put down while he's sleeping.......   Then, again - this might not work either!!!
  • Our DD did the same thing.  She used to sleep 10 hours straight, then just stopped.  She would get up 2-3 times, which was completely unlike her.  Like the response above, it will pass.  I know it may not seem like it, but it did.  Her spurt started a little before 3 months.  It took us about 2-3 weeks and now she is back to sleeping 10 hours again. GL!!
