So my morning/all day sickness is getting much better and i can now eat a little at meal and try to snack but i have no idea how to come anywhere close to the portions i need for three, any tips idea? How do/did you girls do it?
Peanut butter, cheese & avocado sandwiches, nuts, ice cream... these all have a fair amount of calories in them.
ETA: I don't count calories, nor am I trying to follow Dr. Luke's calorie plan. I am just allowing myself to have the things I normally don't, like avocado and cheese on a sandwich together, and peanut butter twice a day. I was up 18 pounds at 2 weeks, so that tells me I am on track. I was actually surprised by how much I gained with little effort. =/
After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!
i didn't follow her diet but did follow her guidelines for weight gain, and trying to eat a lot of protein and dairy.
I just ate all the time and tried to make wise choices - like having avacado, chicken (when i could stomach it), etc... i was always thinking "OK- what can i eat that has dairy or protein" when i was making choices. I drank a lot of milkshakes
it's hard now that i'm trying to lose weight, to change that train of thought!
I eat all the time. I eat small MEALS every two hours. I eat alot of yogurt& fruit, bagels&cream cheese, granola bars&cereal with whole milk, ice cram, sandwiches and my fav is fast food. I know its not good for you, but it increases your calorie intake and some of it is not that bad. Eat up girl!!!
For what its worth - my OB said not to worry about gaining enormous amounts of weight - he said as long as the babies are growing steadily and on target, it has nothing to do with gorging yourself all day and gaining 50-60lb. I started this PG at 107 and at almost 19 weeks I have gained 10-12lbs. I was FREAKING OUT after reading Dr. Lukes book and came to him worried I was never going to catch up and a horrible mom-to-be. He said, as long as you stick to protein at every meal you are doing great. I felt so relieved after that and have started eating like "myself" again and feel so much better. I just eat whatever I can stomach - some days its cheeseburgers, some days its yougurt. Good luck!
I only had two but there was no way I could do what Dr. Luke's book reccomended. I had all day sickness with my twins and had a negative weight gain for most of the pregnancy as a result.
don't panic. When I was 9 weeks I only ate what I could keep down. Sometimes it was healthy and some times not. But now I have to eat every two hours or I feel like my stomach has an empty pit. As long as you eat healthy when you can is important. I couldn't eat veggies, or fruit whole first tri so I started drinking v8 juice. GL! H&H 9mos
IMO you should throw her book out. My triplets weren't discovered until 17 weeks. Yes, 17 weeks. I had severe m/s and was taking Zofran, which only provided minimal relief, so I had not gained that much weight by 20 weeks.
My MFM is the head of high risk OB at one of the highest rated hospitals in the country and he never suggested this book. I ate when I was hungry and I ate what I wanted to.
I carried my triplets to 35 wks, 6 days. I gained 50-55 lbs and my girls weighed 5.3, 4.13, 4.13. The babies only take so much from you and then you will just put on extra weight.
My MFM knows and highly respects Dr. Luke and said that Luke has has reviewed/knows all of the research done on multiple pregnancies. She has me following Luke's guidelines regarding weight gain, supplements, and rest. She has not mentioned eating as much as Luke suggests. My goal is is to gain the suggested weight and eat a lot of calcium and protein however I can.
It's not been easy but I have now gained 30lbs at 25 weeks (goal is 55). My regular items are ice cream, milkshakes, Whoppers with cheese, peanut butter, bagels with cream cheese, cheese and crackers, grilled cheese sandwiches on whole wheat, chicken when I can stomach it. When I can't bring myself to eat, I drink Carnation Instant Breakfast with 2% milk....I drink at least one a day.
Its impossible for me to eat that much. I just feel bloated and sick if i do. I have decided to just try to up my protien (which i didn't eat very much of pre-preg) and since i cannot stomach salads or most veggies anymore I drink alot of v8 and my fav is v8 fusion. I am going to talk to my OB on monday about adding protien shakes since meat just isnt working out well for me.

I am not following her calorie intake recommendations, but I'm following her weight gain plan. If I followed her calorie recommendations, I would have gained 40 pounds by 20 weeks, seriously. I try to have protein at every meal and lots of milk products (milk, yogurt, etc). I started putting cheese on my sandwiches, ordering turkey burgers more often than I would have ever done before, etc. I stopped eating just salads at lunch, now I make sure to have a hot meal, which packs on the calories and weight.
I've tried to follow the gain amts. not the calorie amts. because it really is just too overwhelming. I also went to a nutritionist who help me set up realistic gain goals and meals that would help me achieve these goals.
Once m/s passes, eating becomes much, much easier! There will be days (at least in my pg) where I wasn't hungry at all and others when I thought I was a bottomless pit. Just listen to your body and fuel it well! If eating large portions becomes difficult (it will as that bump gets bigger and bigger), try to break up lots of small meals throughout the day--ti's whatever works best for you! I've been doing the heavy duty protein shakes this past month (really wish I woulda done them sooner!) between meals. They help get nutrients to the babies.
I just used her book for inspiration, but honestly it's impossible for anyone to eat that way. Just try to up your protein and good fats, and have milkshakes as often as you can/want. Don't let yourself get hungry. Eat before you're hungry.
i followed the spirit of the book... and really didn't start eating ALOT until week 15. didn't even start packing on the pounds until a couple months after that. didn't get the book until week 27, but had heard about it and so was making an effort to eat lots of protein, good and not-so-good fat, etc. i am SO glad i ate so much. babies were born at 33 1/2wks (much later than expected) and had good weights... 4, 8oz and 3, 13oz
good luck.
cottage cheese w/ fruit, peanut butter, yogurt, grilled cheese, were all staples i liked.

Don't freak out - you will be fine.
