i get confused when people talk about STTN. i read a post that STTN is anything more than 4 hrs. i've heard of babies sleeping from 8pm to 6am... that's what i consider STTN... 10 hrs.
My baby book said 6 hrs., but even when DS was sleeping 9-3 which technically met the criteria, it sure didn't feel like anything to write home about and I didn't count him as 'STTN'. For me, STTN was when he was sleeping until at least 5 AM. For me, if it's before 5, it didn't count.
In my house, we define it more by the hours than the length. If she falls asleep at 9pm and sleeps until 3am, sure, that's six hours but she woke us up at 3.
If she slept from 11 to 5, that would still be six hours but would be MUCH better, and I'd go so far as to call it STTN.
Re: is STTN 5 hrs or 10 hrs of sleep?
I believe the AAP definition is five hours, roughly from midnight until 5am.
I'd be totally fine with that!

Some books say 5hrs. but I consider at least 8 to be STTN.
I've read 5 hours and I've also read 6 hours.
I consider STTN when it's 8+.
This.
Word!

I couldn't agree more.
This. But at this point, I would be eccastic with 4 hours straight.
