Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Returned to work and baby hardly eating during the day?

Hi, this is my first post on the bump. My daughter is 4 months old and ebf. My husband and I have been trying to get her to take a bottle since she was 3 weeks old. And she will not take them, even if she's staving. I just returned to work last week and I've been feeding my daughter twice a day on my breaks. She gets really excited to see me and gets upset when I try feeding her. She will eat a little bit but not nearly as much as she was when I was home. My Mom watches her during the day and she's been perfectly happy. She also eats great when I get home at 4 and for the rest of the night. But I'm worried that she's not getting enough. Has anyone experienced their baby eating less after returning to work? Thanks.

  • I didn't personally experience that, but there is actually a term for it, reverse cycling. Here is some information about it. I hope this helps some. Good luck!

  • That helps a lot. Thank you!
  • Yes.  My DD hated bottles and I was so concerned when I went back to work that she wasn't eating enough.  We just kept trying different bottles and nipples.  My mom (who watches her) was very patient with her too.  Finally, she took to Avent, level 2 nipples, I think she liked the two holes instead of one.  But even then, she would only drink enough to take off the edge.  She would nurse for almost an hour when I got home.  She gradually learned that she would have to take half of her feedings from a bottle.  Now, she gets excited when she sees her bottle...of course, not nearly as excited as she gets when she sees me Big Smile  Kellymom is a great source.  Your baby won't starve herself...she will learn.
