Very worried..

DH lost his job today...He is an EMT, and we live near the city, so getting another job with an EMS company will be somewhat easy but the thing is he will more then likley be on a 24hr truck as oppose to a 12hr truck. he was on.  I know we gotta do what we have to do but I'm just worried when the baby comes..how is that going to work?

Anyone else have a husband who works 24hr shifts?  What are your plans?

Re: Very worried..

  • Sorry to hear that, I don't have experience with that kind of shift work but I hope everything works out for you! I'm sure it will!

  • Sorry to hear that, but at least he will be able to get a job, be grateful for that.  As well as my DH, will be deployed to Iraq in the fall for 12 months.  At least your not in my boat!
  • Oh no!  I'm sorry to hear that.  :(  I don't have any experience with 24 hour shifts, but it is great news that he can get another job relatively easily.

As far as him working the 24 hour shifts...what is it that has you so worried?  I would think him working a shift like that - he would only have to work an average of about two a week to get his hours in, right?  Are you worried about being with the baby alone for 24 hours straight?  Or are you worried about the delivery taking place during one of his shifts?  I'm sorry - just trying to see what the core issue is here.

  • My husband works as a military EMT and will start working 24 hour shifts instead of 12 in about 6 months. I think it will be ok though because it's 24 on and 48 off. I don't think it will be too bad. I'm actually kind of looking forward to it.

  • DH is a fireman and let me tell you I love the shifts!  I might be kicking myself in a few months but, I have to tell you that having my alone time has worked for me.
