Our pediatrician said he would not give it to his own children (including his former preemie), my brother who is in his residency specifically called me to tell me not to do it and 2 other specialists said no way....Are others getting this same reaction?
To be honest I had not planned on doing it, but was also not dead set against it either. Just seems strange the negative response that is out there toward the vaccination.
Re: H1N1 -anyone else not doing it?
I've gotten the exact opposite reaction - everyone of Olivia's doctors have said that if we want to get it we can (the issue is more about availability).
Did they give a specific reason not to get it?
Basically for the sickest babies/children some of our docs think it is a good idea to get the vaccine. Just because of their prematurity, if they are otherwise very healthy they are not recommending it. I should also say that our ped and many of the docs here in Colorado are very conservative about vaccinating (which I appreciate). Our ped said that it is simply too new and probably not necessary.
I just called the pulmonologist that we saw when Hudson had a wheeze at Children's Hospital. I left a message for her, but was able to speak to the nurse. I asked her if they were recommending the vax and she said only to certain high risk cases.
Why do they say not to get the vaccination?
In our state, people are dropping dead from H1N1. The last number I heard was 40 in the last 2 weeks. That's fuking terrifying to me. Unless somebody can give me actual information instead of hysteria about why to not vaccinate, we have every intention of vaccinating our entire family.
I think this is a great point. I feel like everyone who is against it doesn't really have a legitimate reason, it's all hysteria and hearsay. We'll be getting it if we can.
Need help with high fat food ideas? Chunky Monkey
This is also my rationale for deciding to get the vaccination.
