For those that have done CIO, please share your experiences with me. What did you do at nap times? This is hard for us with L at a daycare center full time. They tend to just put him down when he's tired and it seems they almost always use the swing to get him to sleep.
Also, do you have any tips or advice that might be helpful as we start with L?
We're doing Ferber where you check on them in progressively longer intervals and don't pick them up when your in there.
Re: Please give me your CIO Advice
Do they put him down awake, yet tired? Or get him to sleep in the swing?
If they do the first - then I would just reinforce what they do (as long as you approve of their methods) And if they do the second - I would have them stop...while I think everyone has used the swing for naps at some point - I wouldn't want to get LO used to it.
I'm sure the daycare has TONS of experience with this - so maybe sit down with them to develop a plan. Typically - CIO/Ferber only lasts a few days...so it may be something to start on a friday night and maybe by Monday he will be used to it - and daycare would just have to follow through.
It's so worth it - you'll be loving life with LO soothing himself to sleep!! GL!
They often used a swing at daycare for the babies and then they'd put them in their cribs. I wasn't opposed to it as I always rock(ed) bambino before putting him down, so I didn't think it was much different. They actually got him on a schedule whereas ours was kind of 'fluid' those first 3 months.
It was hard for us, but we did the same thing. It took a few nights with progressively less crying and fewer 'visits'. When he was sick all bets were off, so sometimes it was more difficult than others.
