Can we talk Christmas?

I need some ideas for DH from Ethan.  I already have an idea of what I am buying dh from me. I just want something cute from ethan. I already bought dh the "I Love my daddy" book.

Also what should Iget for his daycare? I was thinking a GC for this restaurant they always talk about and a gift basket from bath and body with soap and hand sanitizer.  She goes through a lot of germ x.  I thought it would be nice to get a little variety.

And I know it doesn't matter so much this year but do you wrap gifts from santa? or just have them sitting out?  We bought him some blocks last night and it took me 10 minutes to get them out of the pkg.  I really don't feel like dealing with that on Christmas morning.

Re: Can we talk Christmas?

  • I am interested to see what the ideas are for Daddy gitfts...

I think that GC are a great gift for daycare.

My parents always had the gifts setting out under/beside the tree.  I will have to talk to DH about what his family tradition was and go from there.  I love wrapping gifts, but with the Santa gifts, they are just going to tear into them anyway (when they are older)and they will not be sitting under the tree for the weeks before.

  • I don't think I am going to get much for DH from Eve.. Maybe an ornament or something... but we are not really getting each other much, if anything..

I don't know about daycare..  I think your idea is cute.. and again.. maybe an ornament. My mom paints ornaments and she always used to make them for my teachers for school every year.. I am sure she has one for a babysitter/daycare..

I am totally gonna wrap her gifts. I'm a dork. I wrap the cats gifts every year.. how can I not wrap eves.

  • I think making some homemade goodie (pumpkin bread) with a small ornament would be appropriate for day care. It shows that you appreciate them but I don't think you need to spend a lot of money.

As for a gift from Ethan, I would consider a nice framed picture for a desk at work (if he has one). Maybe make something with Ethan and frame it. Kim is great for crafty ideas.

  • they have some really beautiful willow tree father and baby figures. I did that for DH one year from Bells. not sure what we are doing this year.

  • I'm going to make DH a desk sized calendar with a pic of him and Justin from that month last year on each month.

I wouldn't do bath and body for Daycare. I think teacher-types get a ton of that stuff and I know personally, I'm very picky about the scent. Also, as far as an ornament- some people are pretty picky about what goes on their trees, I don't know if I'd do that. I think that the GC is perfect. I remember seeing something on the Today show last year that like 85% of teachers rated that as the #1 gift, even if it was just for like a coffee.

Yep, we'll wrap gifts from Santa when he gets them. DH and I are only going to get him one thing. Maybe a ride on toy, which we'll wrap with really loose seams so he can go at it himself.  Last year as a 5 wk old he probably got about 75-100 gifts from our families and I just can't see getting him more than 1 thing.

  • DH and I decided that we'd only have stocking stuffers last year because money was tight. If anything, I'd try to take a cute picture of Ian...OOOH! Just got an idea (actually saw someone else did it) - take a picture of E in one of your dh's favorite shirts and have it framed for his office. I may actually do it with J's Rangers or Toronto FC jerseys.

As for daycare - that's a great idea! I planned on giving ours giftcards as well.

We wrapped his presents. He had more fun with the paper than the toys last year.

  • i wsn't sure how much to spend on Lois(DCP).  at this point i see her as part of our family.
  • I'm not sure about a gift for Dad.  I should probably start thinking about that.  :)

For daycare, I'd love to have time to make them all some cookies.  He goes to a center and there are so many different people that come in and out of the classroom during the day.  He does have 1 main teacher. Maybe we'll get her a gift card.  How much do you think is appropriate? I was thinking maybe $25?

As for wrapping, we'll wrap gifts.  Mainly because I want pictures of him with them.  But I think it's a great idea to keep a couple of thinks open and ready to play with.  Especially anything you might want him to play with right away and some (or a lot of) assembly is required.  One thing I need to remember is to get batteries for everything ahead of time!  I always for get that and it's a pain.

  • I need some ideas for DH from Eva too! ?I think I have exhausted every possible photo idea in previous holidays- mugs, frames, mouse pads, etc. ?

I think a gift card is a good idea for your daycare provider. ?I agree with MrsWhite- as a former teacher I received a ton of bath stuff (and ornaments) that I had no use for. ?I always appreciated the gift cards most. ?You could also buy a favorite book of Ethan's to donate the "daycare library" if you want something to go along with the gc.

Last year I wrapped all of Eva's gifts and then ended up having to unwrap them myself. ?She had no interest! ?Maybe you could put Ethan's gifts in the big gift bag that he could dig in to pull them out. ?

  • I'm no help with gifts for DH.  The book sounds cute though.

I'm stuck on daycare too, but I'm in a little different situation since she's moved rooms and there are several people she comes in contact with.  I know mine does not allow home made food so I might do breakfast buffet of donuts or bagels for their break room sometime in December and then follow it up with gift cards for her current teachers.

One DC gift I came across was to give a pretty soap dispenser (or bath and body soap dispenser) and offer to refill/replace it for one full year as needed.  You could do different scents that way or stick to her favorite.

As far as wrapping- the last few years I've bought different wide pretty ribbons to tie a huge bow around boxes so that it covers any store name or label.  I've done it for my niece (she's 5 now) and she's been fine with it every year.
