Meds and Pregnancy

Alright so this might be jumping the gun a bit. I might be pregnant (the 3 tests I took said yes but were all faint) and I'm a frequently medicated person.

First of all I'm sick right now but I've given up my dayquill because I'm not sure if it would do damage if I am.

Second I'm on an anti-seizure medication called Gabapentin, its actually not for seizures but for chronic migraines. Since the first test I haven't taken any of my meds because I'd much prefer a headache.

I was just curious if anyone was on this med or had heard if it was safe to take.

Ps: I know you should take even faint yeses for yes but I'm paranoid and taking a final test on Sun. If it says yes than I will believe it.

Re: Meds and Pregnancy

  • First, congrats to you! I had a faint test at first and took a digital to confirm. I highly recommend the digital test.

In terms of these questions, you should definitely ask your doctor. I know I wasn't allowed to take Day Quil, or almost any cold medication for that matter while pregnant. I think they recommed Tylenol, Tylenol PM (not tylenol cold) and Sudafed. I'm not 100% on this, but benedryl might have been acceptable as well.

    Definitely ask your doctor!

  • Congrats! My first test was also so faint that I almost threw it away :)

I would also call your doctor to check on all of your meds. Tylenol (regular and extra strength), Tylenol PM, Sudafed and Benadryl are safe, like Emmy said. However, I've always been one to hold out as long as possible and I only took Sudafed one time after being so sick with a cold for days. The one dose did its magic and I didn't need to do anything else. Just lots of liquids, warm salt gargles, and rest.

Best of luck to you, and I wouldn't hesitate to call your doctor even tomorrow for your own peace of mind!

  • I would check out www.safefetus.com. You can enter any medicine there and get the rating.
  • Emmy323: thank you so much for reminding me about the digital. I just took it and I'm officially pregnant :)

    bridz2be: thank you very much

  • I don't have any info on the meds, other than to say call your doctor, but I do want to say congratulations!
  • Congratulations!  I agree with all the pp, call your doctor's office and they will give you the best advice, especially concerning prescriptions.
