Babies: 0 - 3 Months

I really want to start CDing, but I don't know where to start.

There are just so many different ways and I am somewhat confused. How did you get started?

hang out on the EFF board too

  • I'm cheating (here from 3rd tri), but I plan on CDing so I thought I'd let you know what I will be using.

For newborn stage I bought a selection of different brands and styles.  I have some prefolds (didn't want to use these but they will be more of a "backup").  I also bought some fitteds (Kissaluvs size 0) - I've heard good things about these for newborns but they do require a cover.  The rest of my stash is made up of all-in-one diapers of different brands (sposoeasy's, thirsties, and bum genius).  I figure these will all give me a good chance to see what works for LO and DH & I, then when it's time to get bigger sizes I'll know what we like.

Definitely lurk on the EFF board there's ton of info there and the EFF blog is really useful too!

    Good luck! :)

  • I just started too.. Im so excited. jillians drawers has a good program if you want to try out different kinds of diapers...
  • I'd recommend a cloth diaper trial so you can see what you like.  Either that or buy one each of several different kinds.  All though it seems spendy, keep in mind that you can sell it all for almost what you paid for it (that's been my experience at least.)  CDing (once you get into it) is easy, I must admit I don't understand why more people don't do it.  Good luck!
  • I second the Jillian's Drawer trial package.  We started with prefolds and covers to use until we decided what our favorites were from the trial.  I figured the prefolds were cheap and if they weren't our final diaper, they make great burp cloths, dust rags etc. I also picked up a few used diapers from people selling locally that were super cheap.   Only downside of starting with prefolds is they were a little intimidating for DH, but he picked up on them quickly.

  • We're new to CDs at my house, but we prefer it already. We have a very low budget stash - a few dozen prefolds, 3 snappis, and 4 covers all from Green Mountain Diapers. We do a lot of laundry but it's really no big deal.
