So disappointed w/Picture People...

We used them for 6 month pics and they were mediocre, but DD was teething and crabby and afraid of the photographer.  I put off her 12 month pics because she has just been so difficult lately and not eating, etc.  So finally at 14 months old, we get her in and after 2 hours of being there the pics are awful!  Some were blurry and the only decent shots were closeups and she is looking up, like way up.  I'm so disappointed and stressed, I just want a decent pic of my daughter.  I went through so much trouble trying to find an outfit that actually fits since she is so tiny and then we finally get her in for pics and this...

DD whined almost the whole time and the "photographer" just sat there waiting for us to do something or entertain her.  I know they get decent shots of some kids, must be luck or extremely happy kids.

  • I know it doesn't help, but you must have a bad location. We've had a rotation of photographers at ours over 9 years and never had a bad experience.

But I've had bad pictures elsewhere, and it's so exhausting, it makes the disappointment that much worse.

  • We went when DS was 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, and a year.  I liked most of the pics, but was really disappointed with the year pics and this was such a big "milestone" for me.  We hired a professional and got some awesome year pics.  I won't go back to Picture People again, but that's just me.

  • We found a photographer on CL. She's a student and has done several shoots for us and charges a minimal amount.

I would advise doing that. You can go to the park or somewhere nice & get a lot of candid shots. Our photog got like 400+ pictures. Some were great. Some weren't. But at least they can keep shooting to make sure they capture the good ones. Ya know?

  • I hired the photographer who did my wedding.  He has been great with my little one and did 6 month shots and 1 year shots...his pics are the ones you see in my post...I know it is more to go with a hired person but I have not been disappointed so it may be worth it.

  • I would definitely try to find someone in your area that is trying to get started as a photographer.  Usually they are very reasonably priced, and they actually care if they get great shots.  While I have used Portrait Innovations twice, I prefer the more natural shots vs. the posed/fake backgrounds. Try your local Bump Board.

If your DC is hard to photograph, sometimes letting them be outside and running around will get you some great shots.  DD never smiles for "posed" settings, but you take her outside and let her around someplace that has some great natural backgrounds, and she is all smiles.

  • I'm sorry you had such a crappy experience, but I do have to say that you get what you pay for. I wouldn't call the people working there photographers. They often have the location set up and the camera set up and all the "photographer" has to do is push the button.

I agree with other people that you should find a real photographer in your area who will go to a park or other fun location with you and get some more natural and fun shots of your family. It will be worth it as you'll treasure those photos for ever.

    That's really not fair.

The manager at my PP has a masters in Fine Arts with an emphasis in photography. The photographers are mostly college students, yes, but they are college students who are either studying photojournalism or fine arts.
