NER - newborn "mommy" phase?

I didn't think it would happen so early, but DD has recently seemed to enter a mommy phase.  The last few days, she screams whenever anyone else holds her, but calms down almost immediately when I take her.  Today she refuses to be put down - she will wake from a dead sleep as soon as I put her down - so the Moby has gotten a workout.  Did anyone else's LO do this this early (DD will be 1 month on Friday)?  How long did it last?

Re: NER - newborn "mommy" phase?

  • yes, this happens with my lo, off and on...especially when he is really tired. I think he can "smell" my milk, and is comforted by that. he will scream while dh is putting him to sleep, but if I get him, he will be quiet immediately. frustrating for everyone involved, but a healthy attachment nonetheless.

  • Yes, but it was really less of a mommy phase and more of what they call the " 4th trimester"  I'd highly rec watching or reading the Happiest Baby on the Block.  DD loved being help for several months till she was a bit older (maybe 4 months or so) and she napped on me, hung out in the Moby, and slept with me at night (or in the cosleeper).

I knew about the fourth trimester (and DD basically will only sleep with us, likes being held, etc), but until recently she ws happy with anyone holding her, not just me, so it seems different!

Ah, I see!  I found that DD definitely smelled milk on me - and she'd prefer me b/c of that. If I really needed a break, I'd have to exit the rooms so she couldn't smell milk!

Same here.  If I wanted to nap I'd nurse DS to sleep and then quick hand him to DH because if he stirred before I did that he'd just want to nurse some more.  If I was physically gone then he seemed to be ok.
