Re: is it ok to eat ice cream?

  • It depends on what kind. I think only soft serve is in danger of having listeria.

  • I have heard that you should not eat soft serve, like the ice cream at DQ and Sonic. The reasoning is because possible listeria with cleaning the machine often. Hand dipped, which ice cream from the carton, Marble Slap, Baskin Robbins, that is all hand dipped.
  • I have heard this too about listeria in the soft serve.

Custard does have egg yolks in it...but should be cooked...not raw.

It does not stop me from having some once in a while!

  • My SIL was told no soft serve (or salad bar) but my doctor said she had never heard that before. I ate ice cream all the time with DD.
  • Seriously?

This. But I think since they are national chains they have a higher standard when it comes to things like this. You should be ok to eat it.

  • OMG, now I want custard. Non-custard region people are missing OUT.

  • To everyone who replies with "OMG...SERIOUSLY???"...get a life.  The girl asked a question.  If you aren't going to answer it, why bother replying?  The ice cream question is a decent one - some doctors are concerned with listeria in frozen yogurt/soft serve.  I think it's kind of stupid to worry excessively about it myself, but if you're an ice-cream-a-day person or something, it's a valid concern.

  • With DS, the only thing my doctor told me at all regarding food was in regards to fish.

  • I've never heard that.

I've had 2 DQ Blizzards in the past week.  Both totally worth it.

  • At my first appt. when I was pregnant, my OB stated that I had a better chance of getting listeria from eating ice cream than from deli meat (because I was afraid of lunch meat, lol).

That being said, I went through GALLONS of Blue Bell ice cream when I was KU.  GALLONS.  :)

I could be wrong but you might be misreading it because when I read it I took it as "OMG....Seriously? I can't believe I can't eat that" Just my opinion.

  • I never hard this... I'm just mad cause this baby doesn't seem to like sweets!!   With DD, Blizzards and Frostys were about the only thing that didn't give me indigestion in my last few weeks :D
  • I'd say, double check with your Dr. Mine wasn't concerned about it....but I'm not much of an IceCream eater anyway.

As for the drama....how boring....can we get some good drama?  I'm bored.

  • I have heard that too, but no one can separate me from my pumpkin pie blizzards this time of year!  I think the risk is so very low, I am really not worried about it.

    This.

Yeah, maybe.  Sorry.  I read it as "Seriously?  Why the F would you ask that?  How stupid!"  I never rant like that...I'm not sure what compelled me to do so this afternoon.  Maybe I just need to chill out...with a DQ blizzard, of course. ;)
