2nd Trimester

Short girls - are you gaining quicker?

I'm 5' tall and started out around 99-100lbs.  I've always looked like I've weighed more then I really do, so even at that weight I was thin, but had some decent pudge (as I so lovingly call it).  The 1st tri I was nauseous all the time and ate mainly carbs until last week.  That's when I started feeling a lot better and am now eating a lot healthier.  I'm also working out regularly, but not as much as I was pre-pregnancy.  This morning I weighed myself and have gained 10lbs.  No, it's not alot, but at the same time, I feel like it is b/c I read on here how some are gaining way slower.  Just wondering if this is a short girl thing or just my own.  Thanks!

  • I don't know, good question. I'm up 17 pounds and I was 5'3", 120 to start.
  • I am only 5 foot and have only gained 3 pounds since becoming pregnant. I didn't lose any weight in 1st trimester. And I just put on those 3 pounds in the last 2 weeks or so. I was "overweight" for my height pre pregnancy but my doctor said I am perfectly healthy so I was recommended to gain the 25-30 lbs.

  • I am 5'1 and I have gained about 7 pounds...maybe a little more now my battery on my scale went out and I don't think I am going to replace it until after I have the baby. I don't want to obsess about my weight.

  • I'm 5' tall also.  At my last apt (19wks) I had only gained 5 pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight.  My midwife said most women gain double that in the same time frame.  So, I'm a little slow on the weight gain, but I'm ok with it as long as the midwife isn't concerned.
  • Your body will do what it needs to do.. I am also five feet tall and pg with #2 and my first child is not even 1 year old yet!  I started at 105 this time around and have gained 11lbs in 22 weeks, but now I am gaining 1lb a week like I should be, so overall I will gain the recommended weight most likely.. It all evens out at the end!  Unless you gain more than 5lbs a month now for the rest of the pregnancy, you will be fine!
  • I'm 5'1 and as of my last appointment (yesterday, 19 weeks, 5 days) I had gained 7 pounds total.?
  • im 5'1 and weighed 110 prepreg. at 14 wks i had gained 3 lbs. im 17 wks now and when i got on my scale yest it said i hadnt gained anything (but its kinda crappy so it could be wrong).

  • I am tall, 5'8", but I was interested and thought I'd post too.

I gained 8 lbs at my 23 week appt in the last month, which I have really popped in the last month so I wasn't surprised. I have gained 20 lbs now total.

  • I?m 5?1, but I do have BIG hips, butt and thighs. I wasn?t ?skinny? by any means to begin with...more so so average. As of my appointment yesterday, I?ve gained a total of 9 pounds. I gained a whopping ONE pound in 5 weeks. The thing is, I?m definitely looking BIGGER?I officially can?t fit into any of my ?regular? clothes anymore. I?m very weight conscience to begin with, so I?m constantly stressing about it. I think when you?re short to begin with, even a little weight shows more than it would on someone who?s of average height or tall. I definitely FEEL the extra weight.
  • I'm 5' and was 112 pre pg and I have gained 13 pounds.
  • I'm 5'2 & have gained 12 lbs.

  • I am 5'1.5" and didn't gain until week 20 - up 4lbs. At my 25 wk appt I was up 11lbs total. I think it's just individual. My best friend is also short  and she gain the most in the second tri and then not much after that... we're just all different.

    ETA: I started out 95lbs.

  • Not me. I am 5'2" and I have gained 3 lbs to date.
  • OMG! You girls all make me feel fat. If I considered myself average weight pre-pregnancy, you girls are all super models!  That said, I was very comfortable w/ my weight & the way I looked, so I guess I shouldn't be feeling fat.  Anyway, I have gained about 6lbs so far.

  • i'm 4'11" and have gained 12 lbs. (AHHH!) up to now.  it could be attributed to the fact that anything besides carbs made me toss my cookies until week 12 or so and i was having a hard time finding the energy to work out for longer than 15 minutes per day.  i feel like i'm "showing" faster than my other pregnant friends, whether it's chub or not.

  • I don't think so... I'm 5'3'' and at 24 weeks I was 142 pounds(My next appointment is this up coming wednesday) I started at 127, so thats a gain of... 15 pounds? lol, and the lady at WIC told me I was gaining weight just as I should be! Not to fast not too slow.

And trust me... I eat anything but healthy(I really do try, but sometimes.. K-monkey just really, really wants that big mac!! LOL) and  I walk my dog about 1-2 miles a day depending on how I feel in the morning. :D

  • I am 5'2" and started out pretty overweight. I lost about 8 pounds during the first tri because I couldnt eat anything. I have gained about 4 of those back. So technically I am -4 from my prepregnancy. But I have been eating a ton this week, so that may have changed since my visit last week.

  • I am 4'11 and I have gained 2.5/3 lbs so far. Can't fit into my pre-preg clothes, so I guess my body has just redistributed what I had. I started off over weight though.
  • I'm 5'2", 25 weeks and have gained 11 pounds so far (I was 124 pre-pregnancy).  I'm eating everything in sight, but it's all going to the baby.  Dr said baby is as big as he should be so they aren't worried about my weight.  They also think I'll gain quickly in the 7th month.  I wish I would start gaining because I'm tired of people saying that I don't look pregnant!

  • I am about 4'10", and I was around 185lbs when I first got pregnant. I'm 23 weeks, and I weigh about 199lbs now. Everyone tells me that I look huge, but I don't feel huge or think I look big so who knows.
