Hallmark Ornament Collectors?

My mom started each of us kids a collection of one of Hallmark's series ornaments after we were born. It was always so exciting to get our ornament each year!

I'm planning on doing this for dd as well, but there are only 4 new series this year. I have a feeling I won't get many (if any) responses, but is anyone else doing this? If so, which series are you going with?

Or do you guys pick out new/special ornaments for each year (yeah, we do this too - we like ornaments...)?

Re: Hallmark Ornament Collectors?

  • I don't do the Hallmark collection, but I do pick out a new ornament every year for my kids and one for us - usually something that symbolizes something from the year... i.e. this year, DS has a hammer ornament because his first birthday party was construction themed and DD has a ballerina ornament because she started ballet and is into all things ballet this year.... last year our family ornament was a cowboy hat because we moved back to TX from DC, etc. ?I don't know what we'll do for a family one this year yet. ?I usually get the Old World Christmas ornaments because I love their classic look and they're such great quality - but you have to pack them away so carefully! ?Oh, and since ours aren't dated, I date the bottom of them.

  • I do I do!!!!

I started a series for Jack last year ... we went with the Noel Nutcracker series ( https://www.hookedonhallmark.com/Noel-Nutcrackers_c_690.html ) ... I was so excited to pick it out and start the collection for him.

My grandmother started my series when I was 3 or 4 I think, I have every single one of the Nostalgic Houses and Shops collection ( https://www.hookedonhallmark.com/Nostalgic-Houses-and-Shops_c_165-1-3.html ) ... some of which are worth a lot of money these days!

I love love love this tradition, and plan to do it with all my kids  :)

  • We are doing the Hallmark recordable photo ornaments every year. Last year, I just recorded G babbling so this year I am looking forward to actually getting him to say something on our 2009 one. I also bought these to send to the grandparents as part of their gift and I plan to continue to do it every year.

  • Totty- I was just about to say how cute those nutcrackers are. I wonder if I could still get the 2008 one. I just bought my 2009 photo one last week. I waited til the last minute last year and drove all over DFW looking for 3 of them. Don't want to do that again.

I do something like this too. I usually get it personalized also, if I can. My DH and I had also started a tradition the first year we were married and would cut off the bottom of our Christmas tree and I made an ornament out of it. Kind of rustic but something different.

  • Yay! I'm not the only one! Totty - My sis has the same collection! My DH thought it was a silly tradition -- until he found out that the one ornament I'm missing (the first year of the series) is going for nearly $200 on ebay!

We also will probably get a baby themed one for this year too. We try to get one each year that represents something significant for each year.

My grandma did the same thing for me unti I was 25!  I LOVE my ornaments and cherish them every year I get to hang them.

I plan on doing the same thing for DS and DH & I started this tradition for us on our first Christmas together.

  • We do the Lenox Christmas ornaments. Caleb started picking his own last year and I will let Colten this year.

Each of them both have this ornament. https://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=404561&PseudoCat=se-xx-xx-xx.esn_results

The only thing is you have to polish the silver ornaments every few yrs.
