When would you use an umbrella stroller over your regular stroller?

I didn't get a full size travel system stroller purposely so I could use it longer. Would I still need and use an umbrella stroller too?

When you choose to use your umbrella stroller over your regular stroller?

I have a Chicco Trevi if it matters...

  • 1) airports

    2) crowded places i.e. fairs, Disneyland, etc.

  • We keep our umbrella stroller in the car so we don't have to lug the bigger one in and out and it doesn't take up a lot of space.  It's especially nice when we are going to places with a lot of people (a festival, the fair, farmer's market).  The umbrella stroller isn't as bulky and is so much easier to maneuver.
  • For traveling, my Maclaren is light and folds up easily

  • I don't own an umbrella stroller...yet!  I have a Chicco (the big one) and it takes up so much room in my trunk, that I can totally see the need for a smaller stroller.  When we're out shopping, it's difficult to fit everything in the car with that big stroller in the back.

I'd say, if you have room in your car and don't mind lifting your current stroller in and out of the car, then you probably don't need an umbrella stroller.

  • We had a cheap @$$ kolocraft umbrella stroller, we figured we would just use it when flying somewhere to "preserve" our main stroller and just for lighter packing, etc.

It was such a piece of crap that we left it in our motel in the Bahamas.  We HATED it, it steered like crap, I am 5'7" and DH is 5'10" and we bought felt like we were hunched over pushing it sometimes.  It wasn't worth brining back home, because we had the mei tai for the airport, so we ditched it.

Now we don't have one and it's fine.

  • I use my super cheapy $20 BRU umbrella stroller primarily for appointments where I need to contain Amelia, need my hands free to help Verona, and don't want to take up very much space.  It's perfect for the doctor's or the dentist.  I also have a double umbrella stroller by Jeep that I use when I travel b/c it fits MUCH better in a rental car than my double stroller by Graco that is the size of a planet.

For $20, I have more than gotten my money's worth out of it.

  • We have a BOB jogging stroller and a Maclaren umbrella -- so I use the umbrealla for trips to the mall and other short trips because it's a lot easier to get in and out of the car. If we're going to the zoo or somewhere where we think DD will be in the stroller for a while, we bring the BOB.

  • I have DD's old unbrella stroller and it's brand new. I never used it with her and haven't yet w/DS.  By the time I wanted to use it with DD, she didn't want to be in the stroller anymore. Plus it doesn't have cupholders:)
  • Mall...any store that is! I only use DS regular stroller for outdoor use like walks.

  • I only use my umbrella stroller. Since we've had it we havent used the regular one.  Its just lighter and easier to use and DD loves it.  I have no reason to use the bigger one.

    What she said

  • I am a stroller whore and have a crazy system to figure out what stroller I use.  To be honest we really don't need our umbrella stroller, I found a Maclaren for 20 bucks so I couldn't stop myself.  I also have a Trevi and prefer that to my Maclaren for the most part.  Expect for travel that involves a plane or if we have really really small amount of trunk space.  I wouldn't get one unless you have a specific reason for like travel.
  • We used our super cheap Cosco one for trips to the doctor (for DH or myself), dentist appointments, eating in places when he was too little for a high chair.  I didn't love it but DH wanted one.  DS is now too big for it so we don't use it anymore.
  • We don't have one, but we borrow SIL's when we go to the farmer's market because it's so crowded.
