My grandmother decided to forward a chain of emails to me, so that I would have this other person's address.. (a family friend). In the email chain is this short line from my grandmother C&P:
"We are expecting 4 great-grand babies in March .... . Remember them in your prayers. This is A's 1st at 36. M's first at 34. So far no sign of Down's"
WTF???? Just because I am the age I am, this is all she has to say?? Goodness gracious. Thanks GM. I know I'm gonna be 36 but is this really all you have to say about the babies? Am I overreacting here? How about "All are healthy" or something like that. Geez.
BTW, if my new cousin M is on this board, send me a PM. ; )
Re: I can't believe my GM said this:
Wow - yeah, that would tick me off, but I guess we have to remember that in our Grandmothers' time, no one was having babies at our "ripe old age", so this is probably kind of scary for them.
A few years ago my Grandma was trying to give all of the family collection of children's books to my SIL who was a 1st grade teacher at the time. My brother asked if she was sure she didn't want to save them for me. She says, "oh, I gave up on Nisems having kids a LONG time ago" um, thanks Gram - oh and btw, I'm in the room. I can hear you!! lol.
I'm sure GM meant well, and is excited about the babies, but yeah, I would definitely be irritated too.
Wow, I gues I am lucky. My grandmother had 3 kids over the age of 35, the last one (and 9th overall) was when she was 41.
Sorry your GM said that. People lack a lot of knowledge about this and just go by what they see in headlines.
Oh my .. I'm sure she means well, but just has no filter.
How would she like it if one of your e-mails read "GM is X-years-old. So far no sign of dementia."?
Funniest. Response. Ever. ROTLF
I am actually CRYING and ROTFL!! Fantastic, think I'll accidentially forward that one to her to.
