I am currently on two meds that are considered class C. I told my Dr I was TTC before he gave them to me and he kind of shrugged and said something along the lines of "we don't think it will harm the baby in the first week or so, but stop taking it as soon as you find out."
Now, after his unsure answer and looking at the insert that came with the drug, I'm worried about taking it at all. Would you take something in the TWW that cause deformities in infant animals? (no significant testing has been done on humans)
I'm sorry if this is a silly question. I'll probably call the Dr to talk to him about it again, I'm just curious what others would do.
Re: WWYD: Class C Meds and TWW
So not a silly question!
If I were you, I would continue taking them but would stop as the doctor recoed.
This was actually a Urologist. I don't know... he spends all day working with old men so I'm having a hard time trusting his opinion.
ETA: I think I'll call my OB and ask her opinion , thanks for the idea.
Huge Ditto here. I was taking a Class C med and got two different stories from my OB & GP. My GP told me (similar to you) that it was ok to take it while TTC, but that I would need to stop once I got pg, and because I *couldn't* stop it and still be healthy I would not be able to ever be PG on that drug.
Finally I set up an appt with my OB and I got a different response. We had long conversations about the risk, the possibility of that risk actually happening and alternatives, and in the end his recommendation based on my health history was to stay on the drug throughout my entire pregnancy.
It was also nice to hear my OB's perspective because he was able to tell me about previous pg patients who used Class C meds.
