NBR: Curtains for window next to front door

you know...the long skinny window?  Any ideas where I can find a mini curtain or sheer? We have nothing covering this window and I hate it. Especially at night when someone comes to the door (no peephole)  TIA

  • We have the same problem here.  I think we're going to get custom blinds for them to match all the other windows.  I have a friend who got some done and we're going to use her guy.

  • You might wanna check our Home Depot/Lowes, I know they custom cut/order blinds.
  • I have a Lowes hookup if you need it ;)

  • I was going to suggest the same as PP...getting blinds cut or a shutter.

When we moved in, that window didn't have any window treatment on it either and we put in a shutter.  Maybe I'm paranoid, but it stays shut if I'm home alone during the day and is always closed at night.  I'd think you could still see through a sheer?  I don't want anyone being able to look in!

  • We have the same type of window beside our front door and use a single panel curtain there. It isn't lined, so it is somewhat sheer, but it's a faux Dupioni silk lightweight panel and it's an espresso color so you really cannot see through it at all. We have considered getting a custom shutter or wood blinds cut to fit the window, but haven't gotten around to it yet. The curtain does get a bit annoying sometimes because it blows all over the place when you go in and out of the door and you always have to be mindful of it and move it out of the way to ensure you don't close the door on it, lol!
  • Char- have you thought of (or tried) putting another curtain rod at the bottom of the window?  It depends on what your space is like but we had a window like this growing up and we had a rod at the top and the bottom so the curtain wouldn't get caught in the door.  We could still move it to the side a little if we needed to look out the window.

Good idea...yeah, I don't want anyone to see in either. I'm paranoid too :)  We have those black screens (no idea what they're called) on the windows, to block out some heat, but it definitely doesn't cover it enough. Sheers probably wouldn't do the trick.

And where did you find such a small curtain rod?

Well, the panel itself has a rod pocket, so the rod is disguised, but it's just one of those basic rods that are not decorative. Like this....

The curtain panel covers it entirely, but as far as the size goes, I don't know if we bought a standard size or if possibly my DH cut it down smaller to fit. I'd prefer a shutter or wood blinds there to be honest, but this was just an easy and inexpensive way to cover the window in the interim and it has actually worked really well.

No, I haven't even thought about that. Honestly, we don't use the front door all that often, so it hasn't been one of those things that I've obsessed over or anything, but just an observation about having a curtain there vs. a shutter or blind.
  • Now that I know what they're called...

My sister went and they don't cut them this small.  Sad
