3rd Trimester

Do you have coworkers with H1N1?

Anyone else out there with coworkers (or teachers with students) who have been diagnosed with H1N1?

How are you coping without being paranoid?

One of my coworkers who was in the office last week and not feeling well was diagnosed with H1N1 on Monday.  When I talked to my doc yesterday, her opinion was that it would be premature to give me Tamiflu at this point because it's not a coworker I really ever have contact with, but that if anyone else comes down with it, we will revisit this decision.

Anyway, just wondering how you other ladies were continuing to work without stressing yourself unnecessarily.  I'm trying not to be paranoid - but it's REALLY hard . . .

Re: Do you have coworkers with H1N1?

  • I had it and honestly, it really wasn't that bad.  I am not a paranoid person so the hype is way too over the top IMO.  If you start feeling ill, then just get on tamiflu and you will be fine.  Complications arise when you delay treatment.

  • I'm also trying not to be paranoid but so far, I don't know of anyone personally that has been diagnosed with H1N1. I hope that doesn't change. It's tough for me not to be paranoid because I work in a doctors office and have contact with numerous patients checking them in when I am needed to help.

  • My coworker/good friend was diagnosed yesterday.  She started getting ill on Saturday, and hasn't come in this week.  I didn't work on Friday, so I last saw her on Thursday.  I won't freak out unless someone else tests positive.  I think with the weekend, everyone was minimally exposed.

Oh, and BTW...my coworker/friend got back from a Mexico trip Wednesday night and 2 of her tripmates are sick as well.  She obviously got it there or on the plane!

  • So far no co-teachers have had it, but one lady I work with, her 18 month daughter got it about 2 weeks ago. She is in her 2nd trimester so she had to move to a hotel for a week while her husband stayed home with her. I was a little nervous that she had already been exposed and was bringing it to school, but I tried not to go near her or be too stressed out about it.

  • My co-worker's daughter was diagnosed with H1N1 yesterday, I've got my Germ-X on hand to use any time I touch the copier, elevators, kitchen or bathroom.  Gah.
  • my coworker got it over the weekend and so she was out the entire week. i wasnt worried, since she stayed far away until she was all better.
  • Oh, yes, this bugs me so much.  My boss was out on Friday sick but back on Monday not feeling quite better yet and I had a meeting with him for like 20 minutes.  So then he is out again sick on Tuesday and today I get a message that he is out for the rest of the week recovering from the FLU!  I am so mad for having any contact with him on Monday and if I end up sick, feel like suing for sick people coming to work to spread their filth!!!  Can you tell I am really mad and obviously stressing out (hopefully unnecessarily)?  I use hand sanitizer like crazy and am just hoping it is enough.

I'm with you on the hand sanitizer.  The lady in our office was in all last week not feeling well . . . And even though I have very limited contact with her, I'm wondering how many other people may have gotten infected last week who we just don't know about yet . . . Eesh.

Sorry to hear that you are stressing too!!!

  • Tons of kids are out with H1N1....but as my doc said yesterday...BE SMART:) Lots of handwashing, santizing, lysol wipes. I'm even using my saline solution to rinse out my nostrils and gargling with salt water to make sure no germs have a chance to 'be fruitful and multiply' in my body.

One of my co-teachers (who is due soon) got a prescription from her doc for tamiflu just in case she's suddenly ill. My doctor said he wouldn't prescribe it unless I was directly exposed and started feeling bad. He said if every pregnant woman who wasn't sick got a prescription and filled it...the people who really need it would have big problems...which is true. GL to you!

  • Just found out a girl on my team has it.  I guess her daughter had it last week and she is out this week with it.  Makes me nervous......I'm thinking about hibernating until July! haha.  I'm just being smart......washing hands, cleaning desk, etc.
