Greater Washington Maternal-Fetal Medicine

Has anyone had experience with this doctors in this office?  We got our first tri screen results back and, although the numbers were good, we are still considering an amnio.  I wondered if anyone here had gotten an amnio at this place and what your experience was.  Thanks!

Re: Greater Washington Maternal-Fetal Medicine

  • I had my screening done there and they were so nice. I did not have an amnio but was impressed with the staff.

  • I didn't have an amnio there, but had the NT scan and then a 2nd level (?) ultrasound after my results on the quad screen came back iffy on a couple things.  My DD ended up being totally fine, but I had to go there every other week for awhile and then every week the last 6 weeks of my pregnancy due to pregnancy induced hypertension.  All our experiences were great - from the nurses, to the techs, doctors, and genetic counselors.  Sorry I can't answer your exact question, but in general we thought they were fantastic.
  • I had my 1st tri screening there too and thought everyone was really nice.  My only complaint was that they sent me my results saying that all was well.  Then a week later they sent me the same results with a note at the bottom saying that I needed the amnio.  I showed it to my OB and she said that my results were in the normal range, but near the higher end of the range, which is why they said I should come back.  Why tell me that I'm normal if you are just going to tell me that I'm not really normal and scare the crap out of me?  Anyways, I consulted with my uncle, who is an OBGYN and he said my numbers were fine and not to worry.  I never went back for the amnio.  DS was born healthy (although 2 months early - little bugger!)
  • I had my NT scan, 20 week scan, and several follow up u/s at the Rockville location because I had placenta previa, which eventually resolved. I agree with pps - the staff was nice but had a very cautious approach - I had ultrasounds every 4-6 weeks and had 2 more even after the placenta previa had resolved "just to make sure." I saw Dr. Matia.

  • Be careful with their billing and your insurance... they send the labs to NY or somewhere like that.  At first, my claim was denied, and they told me I owed $450.  I was able to get it down to $20 with a couple of phone calls.  :)

I go to the Rockville office as well.  I have placenta previa that is resolving, and Dr Matia is WONDERFUL.  She came and saw me in the hospital and made me feel so at ease after a very scary bleeding episode.  My last follow up ultrasound was with Dr. Gallagher, and he was good too.  I had a very small bleeding episode yesterday and am going to see them today (previously scheduled appt.)

    GL to you!!
