She gave us a rx strength cortisone ointment for when she has an outbreak, but she wants me to change up my bath and lotion routine. We had been bathing her every other day and we were using an oil in her bathwater by mustela as well as their soap and lotion. She wants us to bath her daily in plain luke warm water. We're going to use cetaphil for soap and cersave (sp?) lotion which are both otc. She said water is not the enemy, but soap with bubbles are what take away moisture.
She was extremely thorough, and feels like it was probably just a change in the weather that triggered it. She's hopeful that she'll outgrow it by age 4-5, but made no promises. I am just praying it doesn't spread to her gorgeous face. Her skin has always been like butter so hopefully we can keep it under control and it doesn't start to bother her. They said she'll probably start to scratch at it when she gains the coordination ;(
Re: F/u to annie's dermo appt
Poor baby, but I'm glad she gave you some good advice. I hope it clears up soon.
I hope the cetaphil and lotion help. Interesting that she wants you to bathe her daily. We were told not to, but it's good to know that it's not the water that's stripping the moisture.
About the scratching...DD used her toenails to scratch the backs of her knees. We ended up putting socks on her every time she had a diaper change to prevent it!
Sounds good. I hope it gets under control ASAP.
When Andrew had a flare up I used Cetaphil (I use that as my facial cleanser too) and Eucherin lotion.
Now he's good with Burt's Bees soap/shampoo and I still use the Eucherin.
