Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Supermom or realistic...hmmmm

We are out of vegetable baby food. I swore that when we ran out of the first batch I bought, I'd make his food. I really WANT to make it. But I also work 50-60 hours a week. It's time to give up the dream and buy more, isn't it? I mean, I already CD, isn't that good enough? And why do I feel gulity about this? It's just baby food. Geesh.

Self imposed momma guilt....

  • I would buy some baby food so you have some on hand and then if you have time on the weekend, make a few batches to freeze.  That way you don't feel like you have to make the food if things get hectic.

  • I would just keep some on hand.  There are some veggies and fruits that really take no time at all.  You can get peas and green beans in the steamer bag and steam then puree, literally 10 min.

And there are some baby foods with just the veggie and water in them so its all the same Wink

  • Does LO liked sweet potatoes?  I find them super easy to make.  I rinse, poke holes with fork, rinse again, and then wrap in foil.  I bake them until they're soft.  The skins pull off easily and I don't even use my blender anymore.  I just fork mash them.  I do 4 to 6 at once, enough to fill 2 or 3 ice cube trays, depending on the size of the potatoes.

Other vegetables are easy to make, too, but DD has rejected everything but sweet potatoes and broccoli.

    GL!

  • As soon as I go back to work (one month, two weeks, four days...) I will be buying all of his food that isn't provided by our daycare and I'll be working hours less than you are (37 hours). So, hell, I'd say you're perfectly fine. BUY AWAY!

What I buy for traveling and will use when he goes back are Ella's. They sell that at Toys R Us in the US and they are all organic with no extra crap in them. They have stage 1, 2 and 3 and when I go back he'll be getting 3's and table food if he's ready. Just a suggestion.

  • Do what you can do!!! Your child needs his mama and he needs a happy mama. I think you have to weigh it out for you individually, not compare yourself to anyone else. Is feeding your son home made food something that means a lot to you? Will you be sacrificing an unacceptable amount of time with him/dh/to yourself to make it?

Yes, making baby food and working full time is doable....when i was making it for DD i would take a sunday and make a ton of food that generally lasted over a month. it was  alot of work, but at the time it was something i really wanted to do. But then i went back to work full time and making her food was not as impt so we started to buy her organic. I feel like that was a happy medium for us. And now that she is moving to more and more table food, the pressure i put on myself to make the baby food she ate for such a short time seems so silly.

No mama guilt...the fact that you feel bad about not doing says you are a good mommy...make the best choice for you and your fam.
